For automaticreset operation, turn the resetadjustment dial to the A position asshown in the illustration.Automatic reset is not intended fortwo-wire control devices.AExample of setting formanual reset.Time Current CharacteristicsThe time-current characteristics of anoverload relay is an expression of performancewhich defines its operatingtime at various multiples of its currentsetting. Tests are run at UnderwritersLaboratories (UL) in accordance withNEMA Standards and the NEC. ULrequires:■ When tested at 100 percent of itscurrent rating, the overload relayshall trip ultimately.■ When tested at 200 percent of itscurrent rating, the overload relayshall trip in not more than 8minutes.■ When tested at 600 percent of thecurrent rating, the overload relayshall trip in not more than 10 or 20seconds, depending on the Classof the relay.“Current Rating” is defined as theminimum current at which the relaywill trip. Per NEC, an overload mustultimately trip at 125% of FLA current(heater) setting for a 1.15 service factormotor and 115% FLA for a 1.0 servicefactor motor.“Current Setting” is defined as the FLA(Full Load Amperes) of the motor andthus the overload heater pack setting.Example: 600% of current rating isdefined as 750% (600 x 1.25) of FLAcurrent (heater) setting for a 1.15 servicefactor motor. A 10A heater settingmust trip in 20 seconds or less at 75Amotor current for a Class 20 relay.CA08102001EFor more information visit: www.eaton.com
