Watch placement andorientation throughout assembly.1 Sew 2 rows of 1 each A, B, and CBlocks. Sew D Blocks to cream/gray largeprint 15H˝ square. Sew rows together tomake center pieced square.Appliquéing the Border4 Referring to Diagram I-A, fold dark gray1G˝ x 11 yds. bias-cut strip in half, wrongsides together. Stitch K˝ from fold. Trimseam allowance to J˝. Press tube flat, centeringseam allowance on back so raw edgeisn’t visible from front. Using K˝ bias barmakes pressing faster and easier. In similarmanner, fold light gray 1˝ x 40˝ bias-cut stripin half, stitch G˝ from fold, and trim seamallowance (Diagram I-B). Press tube flat(use G˝ bias bar for faster, easier pressing).From dark gray tube, cut vines in followingquantities and lengths: 6 vines each 56˝, 2vines each 19˝. From light gray tube, cut 12stems each 3˝.5 Referring to Diagram II (page 5) andquilt photo, position vines, stems, and A-Din alphabetical order. Appliqué in place, coveringends of vines and stems with leaves/flowers.<strong>Quilt</strong>ing and Finishing6 Layer, baste, and quilt. Linda machinequilted block seams in the ditch, and addedzigzags to the frames of Blocks A, B, C, andD, and to the inner border. Fleurs-de-lismotifs fill the center square and setting triangles.Appliqué background areas are filledwith a meander, and fleur-de-lis motifs fill theremainder of the cream border. The outerborder is filled with scallop motifs. Bind withred/gray large floral.2 Note: Large pieced triangles are madeslightly oversized. On-point center piecedsquare will float just a bit. To make largepieced triangle, stitch 2 tan/red floral 16M˝half-square triangles to sides of Block E or F.Make 4 total. Sew to center square, centeringcorners of E Blocks on C Blocks, and cornersof F Blocks on D Blocks.3 ⁄8˝Diagram I-A1 ⁄4˝Diagram I-B3 ⁄8˝3 Stitch red/gray large floral 72˝ strips tosides; trim even with top and bottom.
