It was still moving eastnortheast at 50 MPH as itdamaged 277 and destroyed 106residences in the Deland area.There were no fatalities in VolusiaCounty but 42 people wereinjured.Tornado-force winds causeddamage to a restaurant andapartment complex.Port Orange 7/24/2009 F0 0/1 This tornado was caused by aseabreeze merger, when windsfrom both coasts meet and causethe rotation. Although it wasclassified as the mildest oftwisters, it caused damage to 163homes in Port Orange. According to historical records,Volusia County experiences, on average, more than one (1.2) confirmed tornado events annually. Whilethe majority of these events are small in terms of size, intensity and duration, a greater number ofstronger storms (i.e., F2 and F3 tornadoes) have been reported in the past decade. Further, even aminor tornado can cause substantial damage.
