Storm surge incidents have not been recorded separately from these three events.5.11.4 Probability of Future OccurrencesThere is a high probability that Volusia County will continue to experience storm surge associated withlarge tropical storms, hurricanes and squalls combined with high tides, based on the frequency of pasttropical cyclones. As noted in the preceding section (under Flood), anticipated sea level rise will increasethe probability and intensity of future storm surge events. This rise in sea level will increase theprobability and intensity of tidal flooding events, but will also contribute to the loss of coastal wetlandsand erosion of sand beaches that act as protective buffers against storm surge events.Volusia County Multi-jurisdictional Local Mitigation StrategyFebruary 20105:55
