• You lose access to all University services including: your network account; Brunel email account;
Library services; and U-Link.
• You remain liable for tuition fees for the full year. However the tuition fees might be adjusted
depending on the date your withdrawal is agreed by the university.
Withdrawal in weeks 1 – 2 No fee
What happens about my tuition fee loan, or maintenance loan / grant?
• If you withdraw before 1st December you will be personally liable for your tuition fees; your tuition fee
loan will be withdrawn.
• Any maintenance loan or maintenance grant which has already been paid direct to you may also have
to be paid back. Contact your loan provider to confirm your commitment.
• If you are a post graduate research student in receipt of a career development loan you should
contact your loan provider to check the terms and conditions of your loan.
What happens to my bursary & scholarship?
• No further payments will be made after you withdraw.
• We recommend that you check the terms and conditions of your bursary or scholarship. In some
cases payments already received may have to be repaid.
Can I stay in my halls / University owned accommodation?
• No. If you withdraw you will be required to move out of halls or University owned accommodation and
this will incur a break of contract fee.
• The accommodation fees payable will be based on the length of your tenancy. However you should
be aware that if you move out after term 1 you may remain liable for the accommodation fees for the
whole of your tenancy period. Please refer to the terms and conditions of your tenancy agreement for
further details.
What about international students?
• Be aware that your deposit is not refundable in the event that you withdraw.
• Be aware the University is required to notify the UK Boarder Agency (UKBA) that you are no longer a
student at Brunel. This may affect your student visa status and your right to remain in the UK.
• Brunel University has a dedicated Immigration office, which can provide you with advice about what
you need to do about your visa if you decide to withdraw. If you have a TIER 4 visa, it is very
important that you consider the visa implications if you change, suspend or withdraw from your course
of study. Email: immigration@brunel.ac.uk or call: 01895 267489 for advice.
I have decided to withdraw; what do I need to do?
• Contact your school to arrange for a Student Record Amendment Form (SRAF) to be completed. This
will be either in paper format or an electronic form completed in eVision. Once you have completed
the form it must be returned to your school for academic approval as soon as possible (SRAFs cannot
be backdated).
• Contact the Student Centre to get an update on your financial commitments to the University and your
payment options.
• If you are living in halls or University owned accommodation, notify the Accommodation Office in
writing of the date you intend to leave. Ask the Accommodation Office to confirm your rental
commitment and any other costs due.
• If appropriate notify your loan provider (Student Loan Company / Local Authority).
• Check to see if you have any outstanding debts with the Library and return any borrowed items.
• Check all related contract terms and conditions to see if you have any other liabilities.
Please note that this document has been produced as a general guide for students that might be considering
withdrawal. It is not an exhaustive list.
It is recommended students seek help when making a decision about withdrawal and check all related contract
terms and conditions.
