Kenneth KihmMagnavox Professor in Mechanical,Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Kenneth Kihm is the University of TennesseeCollege of Engineering’s Magnavox Professor in theDepartment of Mechanical, Aerospace and BiomedicalEngineering. The Magnavox Professorship was established in 1981by the Magnavox Company, predecessor to NAPConsumer Electronics Corporation, to recognize facultyfor superior teaching and research accomplishments.A pioneer in the field of micro/nano fluidics and transport,Kihm studies the engineering properties for highthroughput cytometry (mechanized counting and measuring)of target cells such as cancer and stem cells. Healso examines nanoscale topology for cellular boundaries/surfacesand bio-nanoparticle tracking inside cells.Kihm has established the Micro/Nano Fluidics andEnergy Transport (MINSFET) laboratory, equippedwith advanced optics, for interdisciplinary researchcombining mechanical engineering with biomedical, materials science and other areas of research. Foradditional information visit received his B.S. and M.S. in mechanicalengineering from Seoul National University in Koreaand his Ph.D. from Stanford University. He is a Fellowof the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.Building Our Future • www.engr.utk.edu124 Perkins HallKnoxville, TN 37996-2000Non-Profit Org.U.S. PostagePAIDPermit No. 481Knoxville, TNPAN: #E01-1301-012-001-07 DOP: 7/17/06
