Awarenessthrough ArtThe Ghostly Village Schoolsof KastamonuYour StoriesMelih Cevdet Tekşen, one of the three winnersof this year’s Young Photographers Award, shedslight through the lenses of his camera to a forgottenplace in his home town of Kastamonu. “I believethat everybody will return to their village one day”says Mr. Tekşen, “Going back in years, sitting rightnext to these schools, remembering my mother’sstories about the hard working teachers andthe images of villagers building these schools onerock at a time…That was my inspiration for thisproject.” While shooting for this project, Mr.Tekşen imagined his mother and his relatives inclass. “I felt like I owed it to these schools, now I ampaying back dues.
