Issue 1<strong>AM5555</strong> <strong>FireWire</strong> <strong>Expansion</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>Fitting</strong> <strong>Instructions</strong>:Thank you for purchasing the <strong>FireWire</strong> IO board for the 4081.This document describes in detail how to fit the expansion board to your existing 4081 unit. For detailedoperational instructions, please read the 4081 <strong>FireWire</strong> instruction manual, which can be downloadedfrom http://www.ams-<strong>neve</strong>.com/Products/Outboard/4081/4081.aspxParts supplied in the upgrade kit:SMN812-389 <strong>FireWire</strong> IO board (1 off)6 pin <strong>FireWire</strong> cable (1 off)26 way ribbon cable (2 off)Power cable(1 off)Mounting Pillars(2 off)Tools Required:M3 pozi screw driverM3 allen keyPair of pliersGetting Started:Step 1: Ensure that the 4081 unit is powered down (also remove the 48v supply cable from the externalPSU), and remove the expansion blanking panel from the back of the unit. Also remove the 4081 lid.Step 2: Remove the two M3 screws (as indicated) holding the 4081 motherboard to its chassis, andreplace with the mounting pillars, as in the photograph below:


Issue 1Step 3: Fit the two 26 way ribbons (as indicated) to the motherboard. These are fitted by lifting theconnector top, inserting the ribbon into the connector, and pushing the connector top back down.


Issue 1Step 4: Place the <strong>FireWire</strong> expansion board into the 4081 chassis (from the back) where the blankingplate was fitted. Fit the other ends of the 26 way ribbon cables to the <strong>FireWire</strong> expansion board asindicated in the photograph below. Note, both 26 way ribbons need connecting – the photograph showsthe 2 nd ribbon disconnected to show orientation of the cable.,Step 5: Screw the back panel of the expansion board to the 4081 chassis using the screws which wereused to fit the original blanking plate, and re-use the M3 screws which were replaced by the mountingpillars to screw the <strong>FireWire</strong> board to the posts.


Issue 1Step 6: Connect the 2 pin power cable between J16 of the expansion board and the power distributionboard mounted on the front panel of the unit, as indicated.That’s it. Your <strong>FireWire</strong> expansion board is now fitted to your 4081.
