THE PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES & RESULTS OF THEACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL COUNCILThe RTBU (<strong>NSW</strong>) is a member based, federally register trade union representingmembers whose usual place <strong>of</strong> work is located within the State <strong>of</strong> New South WalesThe RTBU (<strong>NSW</strong>) is a <strong>and</strong> member the Australian based, federally Capital register Territory trade (ACT) union together representing with members whose employed usual place <strong>of</strong>work is located rail, within tram the (light State rail) <strong>of</strong> <strong>and</strong> New government South Wales owned (<strong>NSW</strong>) <strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> operated the Australian bus industries. Capital Territory (ACT) together withmembers employed rail, tram (light rail) <strong>and</strong> government owned <strong>and</strong> operated bus industries.The reporting unit’s activities are directed by the <strong>NSW</strong> Branch Council in accordanceThe reporting with unit’s its activities objectives are <strong>and</strong> directed rules by <strong>of</strong> the registration. <strong>NSW</strong> Branch Council in accordance with its objectives <strong>and</strong> rules <strong>of</strong>registration.The principal activities <strong>and</strong> the results <strong>of</strong> these activities fell into the followingThe principal activities categories: <strong>and</strong> the results <strong>of</strong> these activities fell into the following categories:ACTIVITIES1. Making agreements withemployers.2. Implementation <strong>of</strong> BranchCouncil’s agenda, includingproviding assistance <strong>and</strong>strategic advice to individualmembers in relation toworkplace issues.3. Representing members intribunals <strong>and</strong> relatedinstitutions.4. Electing representatives topeak trade union bodies in<strong>NSW</strong>.5. Attending meetings called bypeak union bodies in <strong>NSW</strong>.6. Making submissions onbehalf <strong>of</strong> the branch toinquiries <strong>and</strong> proceedingsaffecting the industry.7. Training delegates &representatives.8. Produced <strong>and</strong> distributedcirculars,bulletins,newsletters <strong>and</strong> materials asauthorised by the union.3. ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN ACTIVITIESThere were no rule changes certified in 20082008 RESULTS8 Federally registered Agreements2 <strong>NSW</strong> State AgreementReceived application for admittance <strong>of</strong> 1313 newmembers (<strong>Bus</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> Division).429 appeals before <strong>NSW</strong> Transport AppealsBoard (TAB) (415 <strong>Rail</strong> Division & 14 <strong>Bus</strong> Division) 6 delegates <strong>and</strong> alternate delegates (<strong>Rail</strong>Division) <strong>and</strong> 1 delegates (<strong>Bus</strong> Division) 2delegates South Coast Labor Council nominatedto <strong>Union</strong>s <strong>NSW</strong>. Attend approximately 30 <strong>Union</strong>s <strong>NSW</strong> meetings. 1 submission was made in 2008.107 workplace delegates were trained.36 delegates trained for <strong>Rail</strong>Corp CampaignCommitteeProduced <strong>and</strong> distributed:- 4 copies <strong>of</strong> union journal Road & <strong>Rail</strong>;- 131 membership bulletins- 3 newsletters- 1 Around the Tracks).21 MAY 2009 3Page 24 raIL & ROAD June 2009
