MSC in Financial ServicesThe Financial Services Industry is conscious of a lackof good graduates with in-depth knowledge ofFinancial Services. The Programme is therefore aimedat those who wish to excel in the industry quicklyand successfully.While there are a number of generic programmes inFinancial Services at MSc level they virtually all failto provide adequate detailed knowledge of theFinancial Services Industry. There is a markedabsence of an MSc Programme which providessuitable training and insight into the real world ofFinancial Services and its products.The University of Buckingham is developing aspecialist programme to start in January 2007 to fillthis void and will be directed towards students whowish to enter the Financial Services industry in areasincluding insurance broking, the pensions industryand mortgage brokerage.There will be two main elements to the Programme,the practical and vocational orientation of theteaching will be complimented by academic rigourrequired at MSc level. Students will produce adissertation under the guiding supervision ofprofessional and academic faculty. Staff ProfilesDr. Mike LucasDr. Mike Lucas BA (CNAA), Dphil (Buckingham), FCMA is head ofAccounting and Finance and specialises in Management Accounting.Prior to entering the academic world Mike had many years experienceat senior level in industry and commerce. His research interests includethe gap between management accounting theory and practice and hehas written many articles in this area. He is also interested in thechanging role of business and accounting in the emergence of asocially and environmentally sustainable capitalism. Mike is a keenmusician and has played guitar for many years. He puts his talent togood use playing regularly at University and other social events.Irena JindrichovskaDr. Irena Jindrichovska MSc (Prague) Dphil (Prague) is a lecturer inFinance and Accounting and Programme Director of the MSc inAccounting and Finance. She is co-author of several books published inher native Czech Republic on the finance sector and has writtennumerous research articles for international accounting journals.Her current academic interests include an international study intoCorporate Financing Decisions in Transitional Countries: a Study ofManagement Perceptions in Hungary, Poland and Czech Republic.Her areas of expertise include Banking, Market-based Accounting,International Accounting, Capital Markets and Emerging CapitalMarkets.Petar SudarPetar Sudar BSc, MSc, MSI, is a Lecturer in Accounting and FinancialManagement and he currently teaches Financial Reporting (UK GAAPand IAS), Introduction to Financial Accounting, and MBA Finance. Afterhe graduated with a first class BSc in Finance, Accounting and Banking,Petar worked as an investment banker managing a portfolio of multimillionUS dollar loans and later lectured in investment theory. Hethen joined the MSc Finance programme at Strathclyde University inGlasgow, and later the PhD programme in Accounting at the sameuniversity. Alongside his studies, Petar engaged in research andpublications. His research has been published in the UK and alsopresented at academic conferences in the UK, Hungary, Croatia,Australia, Denmark and the Czech Republic. Petar is also a member ofthe Securities and Investment Institute, UK. Petar is a keen stampcollector, a football and Formula 1 fan, and he also enjoys travelling.Paul TuckPaul Tuck BSc (Bristol), FCA is a lecturer in Accounting and Auditingand a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England andWales. He has spent more than 20 years as a professional accountantboth in professional practice and as an independent interim financialmanager for commercial and financial services companies. His areas ofexpertise include Auditing, Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting,Corporate Governance, International Accounting and ManagementAccounting. His academic interests include the interface between thetheoretical and practical aspects of Accounting and FinancialReporting.
