He was a farmer from 1946 to 1962, and then worked at Eli Lilly Production for 20 years,retiring in 1990. His memberships include First Christian Church, where he was a former deacon, American Legion and theMoose Lodge, where he was a life member. Mr. Avery was a 4-H Leader, served on the 4-H Council, the Fair Board, theCommunity Schools of Frankfort Building Corporation, was president of Indiana Poland China Breeders Association, andinitiated restoration of Frankfort City Lagoons. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacificand received the 96th Infantry Division Presidential Unit Citation.
