<strong>Peru</strong> <strong>Tribune</strong>, The (IN) - Thursday, February 24, <strong>2011</strong>Arthur “Rebel” Combs, 91, <strong>Peru</strong>, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, <strong>2011</strong> at Dukes Memorial Hospital. He wasborn in Breathitt County, Ky., on Jan. 14, 1920, to Henderson “Bud” and Martha Helen (Collins) Combs. He married BettyJohns in 1980 and she survives. Arthur served in the U.S. Army under General Patton, received two Purple Hearts, a BronzeStar and the Silver Star, as well as Marksman and numerous other awards. He retired from the N&W Railroad as abrakemen/conductor. Arthur is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughters, Delphia McKelvey, Ohio, Martha Helen Combs,Ohio, Jane Labar, <strong>Peru</strong>, Kimberley (Sam) Pegg, <strong>Peru</strong>, Sheila Maxwell, <strong>Peru</strong>, Sharon (Norman) Browning, <strong>Peru</strong>; and his sons,James (Ruth) Oldaker, Michigan, and Richard (Kathy) Oldaker, Kokomo. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Reta Bruehler. A funeral service will be held at 10a.m. Saturday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St., with Pastor Rose Sorenson officiating. Burial will be inEver-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County. Memorial contributions may be made to Miami County Military Rites Unit.<strong>Peru</strong> <strong>Tribune</strong>, The (IN) - Thursday, February 24, <strong>2011</strong>- Friday, February 25, <strong>2011</strong>Dorothy Crist, 89, formerly of <strong>Peru</strong>, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, <strong>2011</strong>, at the Medical Center of Manchester,Tenn. She was born June 17, 1921, in San Piere to Noland and Rose Szczech Colwell. She married Oscar Gridley, and he diedin a train accident. She then married Ulva D. “Bill” Crist on Jan. 25, 1944 in Winamac and he preceded her in death on Oct. 1,1970. Dorothy was a 1939 graduate of Knox High School, Knox. She was a seamstress at McLaughlin in <strong>Peru</strong> and Gossard inLogansport, retiring in 1981. Dorothy was a member of Saint Charles Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and Altar andRosary Society. She is survived by her sons, Allen (Carolyn) Crist, Amboy, Joel (Cheryl) Crist, <strong>Peru</strong>, and Leon (Ellie) Crist,<strong>Peru</strong>; and her daughters, Ruth Gridley, <strong>Peru</strong>, and Nadean (Roy) Schaefer, Altamont, Tenn. She is also survived by 23grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; twohusbands, Oscar Gridley and Ulva “Bill” Crist; a sister, Frances Eads; a son, Gene Gridley; and a daughter, Paulette Williams.A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Saint Charles Catholic Church, 58 W. Fifth St., <strong>Peru</strong>, withthe Rev. Francis I. Kilcline III officiating. Burial will follow at the Saint Joseph Cemetery, Pulaski County. Family and friendswill gather at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., <strong>Peru</strong>, with a prayer service following at 4 p.m. at thefuneral home. (Bowman) Witt. She married Donald “Wimpy”Clard on July 19, 1941, and he preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1986. Thelma was a homemaker and a member of the LibertyBaptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Jack (Kathy) Clark, <strong>Peru</strong>, Pat (Jeanne) Clark, Warsaw, Timothy (Cherri) Clark,Jensen Beach, Fla., and Raymond “Bud” (Cherie) Clark, La Fontaine; and her daughters, Helen Clark, Marion, and VickiRiggle, <strong>Peru</strong>. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She waspreceded in death by her husband; her parents; her son-in-law, John R. Riggle Jr.; and a brother, Robert Witt. A funeral servicewill take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Hospice.<strong>Peru</strong> <strong>Tribune</strong>, The (IN) - Friday, February 25, <strong>2011</strong>William “Bill” Hochstedler Jr., 80, <strong>Peru</strong>, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 22, <strong>2011</strong> at Miller’s Merry Manor, <strong>Peru</strong>. He wasborn in <strong>Peru</strong> on Aug. 6, 1930, to the late William “Bill” Sr. and Gladys (Shrock) Hochstedler. He married ImogeneHochstedler, and she survives. Bill’s love for farming lasted until 1974. Due to his health, he had to retire from the farm andwork for Don Welton Mobile Homes in Kokomo; from there, he worked for First Farmer’s Bank in Converse for 18 years. Healso served as a school crossing guard. He loved to watch I.U. basketball and Chicago Cubs baseball. He most enjoyed goingto Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, fishing for walleye with his family. He was an avid deer hunter. Bill attended ChristianPilgrim Church, <strong>Peru</strong>. He is survived by his wife; his son, Jim (Annie) Hochstedler, Amboy; his daughter, Vickie (Jesse)Briscoe, <strong>Peru</strong>; his sisters, DellaMae Hochstedler Rosa, Kokomo, and Carolyn Sue Kimmel, Greentown; and his brothers, PercyH. (Ella Jean) Hochstedler, Marion, and Fred D. (Melba) Hochstedler, South Carolina. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 13great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Glenn AllenHochstedler; his sister, Kathryn Mohler; and a brother, Jack Hochstedler. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturdayin the Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Larrison-Martin Chapel, 308 E. Marion St., Converse, with Pastor Paul Laneofficiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in theConverse Cemetery, Converse.
