Alex will be performed Purcell’sDido and Aeneas in the 2012 Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center withthe Mark Morris Dance Company and mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe.He also performed two concerts at the Darmstadt International MusicInstitute with the Talea Ensemble. Alex’s recordings can be heard on theNaxos, Bridge, and Tzadik record labels. Alex is a graduate of YaleUniversity and the University of Arizona. He attended the ManhattanSchool of music as a student of Pinchas Zuckerman. Alex is assistantprofessor of violin at Brigham Young University and in the summershe teaches at the Wellsley Composers Conference and Chamber MusicCenter in Massachusetts.Garrick Woods, cello, is a cello instructor at Brigham YoungUniversity and a candidate for the doctor of musical arts degree at theUniversity of Utah. He began cello studies in Tucson and completed amaster’s degree at the University of Arizona under the guidance of MarkVotapek. Active as an orchestral musician, Garrick has been a cellist in theTucson Symphony Orchestra, the Missouri Symphony Orchestra, the TucsonPops Orchestra, and the Tucson Chamber Orchestra. He is a laureate oflocal and regional solo competitions and won honors in both cello andcomposition at the Interlochen Arts Center where he was an EmersonScholar. He has performed in master classes of Yo-yo Ma, Carter Brey andJanos Starker and he appeared at the Yehudi Menuhin Chamber MusicSeminar, the International Festival Institute at Round top and, most recently,at the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute in Toronto. He is active as astudio musician for film and television and he served on the music facultyat Southern Utah University.Pianist Rex Woods has performed in the United States, Canada,Mexico, France, China and Australia, but is best known to regionalaudiences for his frequent artistic performances as both a soloist andchamber musician. Mr. Woods received his musical education at BrighamYoung University, the University of Arizona, the University of SouthernCalifornia, and the American Conservatory at Fontainebleau. He wasawarded the Otto Guth Memorial Award from the San Francisco OperaCenter for excellence in vocal coaching and was the recipient of thePremier Prix de Fontainebleau in chamber music. Mr. Woods holds thedegree of Juris Doctor from Arizona State University. He has servedon the faculties of the University of Texas at Austin and the InterlochenCenter for the Arts. Since 1988, he has taught at the University of Arizonaand is currently serving as the director of the University of Arizona Schoolof Music. Recent credits include nationwide performances with flutist BrianLuce. Their recording, Music of the Superpowers, is available on the Albanylabel.
