Growing OurLegacy: ContinuingOur Missionby Dr. Ron OakesThe founding board of directors in 1957, led by chairman O. S. Lincoln, emphatically affirmed that “thepurpose of the school is to recruit and train leadership for the church at large according to the New Testament teaching.”Central continues that Legacy of a strongly conservative, Biblicallygrounded, higher educational institution that consistently champions therock-solid principles of the Restoration Movement.Over 4,100 students have studied under Kingdom-focused, globallycommissionedprofessors. These servant-leaders pass on to others thisLegacy of loving the Word of God. They understand Scriptural doctrine. They teach that truth all around the world serving as preachers, ministers, teachers, counselors, and missionaries. This Legacy rooted in Scripture needs to grow! The world needs more authentic Kingdom leaders who passionatelypenetrate the darkness with the light of God’s Word. According to theJoshua Project, there are 6,954 unreached people groups in the world, totaling2.84 billion people who need Jesus! Romans 10:14-15 says, “And how will theyhear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent?”Romans 10:14-15 says,“And how with they hearwithout a preacher? How will they preachunless they are sent?”Central sends out servant-leaders for the church. Since our founding, Centralhas awarded 1,267 degrees and certificates to students. The lasting value ofCentral’s Legacy will be sustained in this “Growing Our Legacy” campaign by your partnership. Together, we canprovide resources for the full-tuition scholarship, for the safety & security of our students, and for theproper stewardship of campus facilities.ScholarshipSince 2001 Central has provided a full-tuition scholarship. With the high costs of private Christian colleges,Central makes it possible for students to gain an excellent education without becoming hampered by educationaldebt. They pass on that Legacy of never forsaking the conservative teaching of the Word of God.Safety & SecurityCentral’s transformational spiritual environment provides a safe, comfortable campus. Though our 40-acrecampus with seven buildings and two athletic fields has witnessed, thankfully, no violent intruders, we want toprovide a campus-wide security system. We certainly don’t want to wait until an intruder incident occurs beforewe put into place the necessary technology and software to protect our students. Improved campus lighting andnew residence facility room door locks would further enhance the reality of a safe and secure campus where holisticgrowth can occur.StewardshipCan you imagine scraping ice off the inside of windows during the winter? Students in Lang and Spurling Hallsfeel the brisk air through the 40-year old windows. These inefficient, aluminum clad, single pane windows wereinstalled when the residence facilities were built in 1968 and 1971. No central air conditioning systems exist.Likewise, the Ferneau Center still has the original stage drapes and orange bleacher carpet. Refurbishing campusfacilities with energy-efficient, double-pane windows, heating and air conditioning systems, and adding mini-vansfor better fuel consumption demonstrate proper stewardship ofthe resources God has provided to Central. This “Growing Our Legacy” campaign provides the impetus foryou to pass on from our founding fathers the lasting value of aconservative, Biblical education to the next generation of servantleaders. You help create a safe and secure spiritual campusenvironment where God’s call is clearly heard and followed. YouCentral continues that Legacyof a strongly conservative,Biblically-grounded, highereducational institution thatconsistently champions therock-solid principles of theRestoration Movement. This “Growing Our Legacy” campaignprovides the impetus for you topass on from our founding fathersthe lasting value of a conservative,Biblical education to the nextgeneration of servant-leaders.help Central demonstrate proper stewardship of God’s resources. Dr. Barry Thornton Joinsthe Advancement TeamFor several years, Barry has been a strong proponentfor CCCB in each of the churches he has served byencouraging aspiring ministry students to attend the Biblecollege. After 34 years of located ministry and four multi-milliondollar building campaigns, Barry decided to accept the call to cometo Central in the role of Director of Development.Barry ThorntonHis three-prong commission has been defined as1) Concentration on new and existing donor churches, especially in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Arizona,2) Teaching a class each semester in an area of practicalministries, and,3) Pioneering a church servicing organization that will helpchurches dealing with building programs, “change,” andleadership development, among other things. Barry has beeninvolved in building campaigns and organizational changesthat have led to accelerated growth in each of the churches hehas served. If you asked Barry, “Why Central?,” He would proudly state, “Ibelieve that Central Christian College of the Bible has continuedto uphold its mission since 1957 as a training center for preachers, missionaries, and other Kingdom workers faithfully over the years. In a Christian education culture that has tended to follow fads andtrends away from pure “Bible College,” Central has remained faithfulto its original spirit and intent. Because of this, I feel honored andexcited about serving our Lord in reviving the urgency of sendingout workers into the harvest…for one reason: He is coming back, and, it might be TODAY!” Barry concludes by saying, “Whetherit is filling a pulpit, sending a missionary around the globe, orequipping young people with the message to be shared in otherrespects, Central is “spot-on” with its values, mission, goals, andpassion, and, frankly, I’m just blessed to be a part of it all!”Barry Joins the existing Advancement team comprised of PhilMarley, Alan Wilson, Sherry Wallis, Veronica Hamblin, and CindyMeyer. REALWe had a wonderful time at the AlumniHomecoming this year, and if you weren’tthere you missed a greatweekend. Bob Russell, LloydPelfrey, and Jerod Walker (’99)were excellent speakers. BrianSevits (’08) and the team ofalumni singers did a wonderfuljob preparing our hearts forthe messages. The churchplanting panel workshop could have gone on formost of the afternoon, and Teguh Djaja (currentstudent) reminded us that Christianity is a choicewith severe consequences for some. We also had atime to ask the administrators questions about thecurrent affairs of the college, and it was good toget current information. It is our hope that morewill come to next year’s homecoming! Save theDate—March 8 & 9, 2013.On Saturday we held our annual business meeting.During the meeting we elected Jim Kilson as ournew vice-president. We asked for suggestions onhow to energize more of our alumni into gettinginvolved in homecoming. It was asked about thepossibility of an alumni family “adopting” a currentstudent and sending birthday cards, care packages, personal notes of encouragement, etc., and tofollow the students throughout their college careerand afterwards (if possible). If this is somethingyou would be willing to do, please let us know byemailing alumni@cccb.edu.We would like a broader voice and input frommore of our alumni, so the topic of proxy votingwas discussed. It was decided that the C3A willput together a questionnaire and send it to thealumni via email and a link put on the Facebookpage. Input is needed for homecoming speakers, alumni officers (president, vice-president, andsecretary), and alumni award recipients. Wewould also like to define the alumni awards better, and your input is needed. While in collegeKramer helped keep students’ cars running, and this talent has served him well in hisministry. His skills in the building trades enabled him, John Sickle, and members of thecongregation to build a new church building in Stiles in 1967; they added to it in 1993.In 1970 Kramer built the parsonage for his family’s home.
