Moreover the same consultation (graduates’ returns only) shows that thePhysics graduates exhibit a percentage of people working in a positionrelated to the degree lower than the average of the seven Tuningsubjects; correspondingly the Physics graduates exhibit a percentage ofpeople working in a position not related to the degree higher than theaverage; this percentages are again consistent with a «de facto»interdisciplinary mentality 8 . Of course the above position of the PhysicsAcademics may have risks in itself, mainly because of the fact that Physicsmay be sometimes perceived by the students, who are going to enter theuniversity, as closed in itself, thus limiting the number of fresh students inthe subject.3. The gap in the competence valuesThe gap or difference between the rating values in the two cycles ofa given competence is always positive, i.e. on an absolute scale thecompetences of the 1 st cycle are always evaluated as less important. Asalready noticed, this fact witnesses that the Physics academics perceivethe competence development as a cumulative process. The gap amountcan then be taken as a rough measure of the development, which maybe further achieved in the 2 nd cycle (for a given competence). The Table 4shows the competences, as ordered by descending gap, againsubdivided into three groups (high, intermediate, low gap). The variationrange of the gap is 1.073, i.e. a meaningful one.8Such a trend in the percentages is only found in History (quite pronounced) andperhaps in Geology.179
