Portable Microscope 4D User ManualCongratulations on your purchase of the Portable Microscope kit for the Nikon Coolpix S4 digital camera (suppliedseparately). This microscope kit has been made in Germany to the highest standards in order to give you years ofservice. Unlike microscopes available elsewhere, this system uses the Olbrich Lens System (named after theinventor Kurt Olbrich) which enables you to have a significantly higher depth of field at full aperture therebyensuring maximum quality even in low light conditions. The exact magnification obtainable depends on the size ofthe prints made from the images you create with the camera. For best results, always use the full 6 megapixelresolution in the camera as our optical system ensures that the camera’s full resolution can be utilised without lossof image quality.AssemblyBefore use, please assemble your microscope kit and the Nikon Coolpix S4 digital camera according to thefollowing instructions. The first step is to slot the lens part of the camera into the special holder. The camera should fit snugly into theholder.Cable Release Adapter ( and )This optional accessory is only required for difficult pictures that need to be absolutely free of camera shake under low lightingconditions. Alternatively, you can use the self timer to take an image either 2 or 10 seconds after the shutter has been released. The special cable shutter release adapter (optional) is attached to the camera as shown in pictures 1 and 2. Simply slide the adapter overthe camera so that the knurled screw can be screwed into the tripod receptacle (fig. 1). Ensure that the other end of the adapter is locatedover the shutter release. Then screw the supplied cable release into the adapter using the hole over the shutter release (fig. 2).LED Illumination Adapter (, and )These pictures show the optional LED lighting system and how it is attached. This optional accessory can be useful where there isinsufficient daylight or alternative lighting systems available. The camera’s built in flash cannot be used with the microscope kit.To attach, simply remove the knurled screw (fig. 5) and feed the slit around one of the 3 legs between the lens and the ring. Reattach theknurled screw and adjust the height until there is a gap of 10mm between the ring and the bottom of the adapter (fig. 5.). Now screw it inuntil you feel a light resistance. The LED adapter can easily be swung to the right or left so ensure the best lighting. The LED adaptercan be used with (fig. 3 and 4) or without (fig. 5 and 6) the base plate (optional).Base Plate ()The base plate (option) allows you to use the microscope hands-free. The inner two nuts are used to clamp the ring of the microscopeadapter to the base plate. The outer three screws are used to adjust the height of the microscope over the object to be imaged. To use the microscope, simply place the bottom of the ring against the object to be photographed, adjust the zoomas required, and half press the shutter on the camera to adjust the focus and lighting. When you see the imagerequired through the viewfinder, simply press the shutter release fully to take the shot. According to the zoom used, you will have between 1.5mm (maximum zoom, 100x) and 4mm (minimum useable zoom, 25x) depth of fieldmeasured from the bottom of the ring away from the microscope system. If you have any further questions or need support, please visit our website or call one of our contact numbers.Online Support: www.grayfieldoptical.com/support or Email support@grayfieldoptical.comService Hotlines: USA: 1 (702) 425-7775,UK: +44 (0)20 8133 4321EU: +49 (0)221 20046970Germany: +49 (0)6062-3282 (German language only)This product conforms to relevant European laws for electrical safety.
