<strong>ROBERT</strong> <strong>RIGBY</strong> – <strong>Writer</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Musician</strong>Robert Rigby began his career as a journalist, then spent several years in the musicbusiness as a songwriter <strong>and</strong> session musician before becoming a writer, initially fortheatre <strong>and</strong> television <strong>and</strong> subsequently extending his range to fiction for young adults<strong>and</strong> radio drama.In 2005, Robert teamed up with best-selling thriller writer Andy McNab to write a seriesof action/adventure books for young adults for R<strong>and</strong>om House. The adrenaline-poundingBOY SOLDIER, PAYBACK (both 2005), AVENGER (2006) <strong>and</strong> MELTDOWN (May2007) went on to sell over 500,000 copies in the UK. Putnam published the first threebooks in the US <strong>and</strong> translation rights were sold worldwide. R<strong>and</strong>om House released thebooks in audio form. Robert <strong>and</strong> Andy developed the first two novels as a feature filmfor BBC Films.RUNNING IN HER SHADOW, PARALLEL LINES, WHEELS OF FIRE <strong>and</strong> DEEPWATERS were official London 2012 titles for Carlton Books’ young adult list.Robert’s next young adult novel THE EAGLE TRAIL (publication 3 April 2014) is anaction/adventure story for Walker Books set in WW2 Belgium <strong>and</strong> SW France, bothplaces which Robert knows well.Robert also enjoys writing for radio. His most recent radio project was a two-partdramatisation of Alan Sillitoe’s SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING directedby Carl Prekopp for Goldhawk Essential <strong>and</strong> BBC Radio Four’s New Wave season(September 2013).Previous radio dramas include: NO PLACE LIKE HOME a thriller co-written with NickRussell-Pavier who also directed <strong>and</strong> which starred Alex Jennings <strong>and</strong> Toby Stephens(Goldhawk Essential, BBC Radio Four Afternoon Theatre, 2010) <strong>and</strong> NO PARTICULARPLACE TO GO a play with songs/music also written - <strong>and</strong> performed - by Robert,directed by Nick Russell-Pavier for Goldhawk Essential <strong>and</strong> BBC Radio Four AfternoonTheatre (2011).Robert’s award-winning work with youth theatre companies has been seen in Britain,Europe <strong>and</strong> Africa <strong>and</strong> his distinctive PLAY IN A DAY br<strong>and</strong> continues to be presentedby schools across the UK through Lynx Theatre.Robert enjoys regular contact with his audience at schools <strong>and</strong> other institutions up <strong>and</strong>down the country.
