From the EditorI received an e-mail from Rich Tinsley(rtinsley@midsouth.rr.com) recently, informing methat he was in the job market again. I askedhim about several of the former students thathe studied with. He told me an interestingstory about Milton Lamb; Rich writes:I talked to Miltonrecently. He’s leftengineering andstarted up anewspaper like theMemphis Flyer downin [Alabama]. It’scalled the ValleyPlanet(www.valleyplanet.com)and the maiden issue[was] just released acouple of weeks ago. Check it out.Rich goes on to say:It’s been 10 years since we all graduated. Ipredicted it then and I’ll stand by myprediction now—the real world of engineeringis nowhere near as difficult and stressful asschool was. Either you guys did it right, or I’mdoing it wrong. You may quote me.RichSo I went to the Valley Planet web site, andwrote to Milton who is doing very well aseditor. I also entered a contest and won aValley Planet T-shirt—the pride of mycollection.Positions Sought / Positions AvailableThe Alumni portion of the web site can beaccessed from a drop-down menu on the site’shome page, or directly at:http://www.me.memphis.edu/alumni/default.htm. Inaddition to providing a repository for past e-newsletters, it holds two tables that may be ofinterest to you: Positions Sought and PositionsAvailable. Any alum interested in “testing thewaters,” may anonymously post a notice oftheir availability on the market and mayprovide as much or as little information aboutthemselves as they wish. You may provideyour own contact information or you mayremain completely anonymous by workingthrough the web curator using analphanumeric identifying key. If you are awareof opportunities in your current organization,we hope you will choose to post thatinformation to the Positions Available table sothat other alumni will know of theopportunity. In such an instance, simply sendthe web curator a very brief description to postin the table and, if you can, a morecomprehensive job description that will beposted to a paged linked to the table. Thecurrent web curator is Prof. Hochstein(jhochste@memphis.edu), but you can alwaysreach the curator for the ME Department website at me_web@cc.memphis.edu.Dr. John Hochstein1.WordPuzzlesIIIIOOO2.StandIFollowing are some word puzzles.
