Equine may be shown according to breed specifications, and may usea bridle if specified in breed rules.27.5. <strong>Showmanship</strong> is a demonstration of the athlete’s ability to show theequine to the best advantage in a halter27.6. Conformation is not to be considered27.7. Hand aids, without touching the equine, are allowed27.7.1. Athletes may touch the equine when directed by the judge orspecified in the pattern.27.7.1.1. Athletes touching their equine should not expect a zero,but will be scored accordingly.27.8. Disqualifications (Also see General Rules 8.0 Judging)27.8.1. If an athlete enters the arena with missing required equipmentillegal equipment, or illegal use of permitted equipment,including uniform violations, not considered unsafe, the athletewill be allowed to continue on the course and receive scores andcomments but will be disqualified from the event.27.8.2. Overall <strong>Showmanship</strong>Judge’s Signature:______________________________102• We are looking for the athlete to create a presence that convinces the judge and audience that theirhorse is the best, and that they have successfully completed every element of the pattern.• Eye contact with the judge, crisp body communication and facial expression are all part of thisground equitation class.• Changes of sides should show the willingness of the horse to yield to the athlete under anyconditions.• Condition of coat, feet, mane and tail does count in this class. Handler and horse should be neat,clean, and well groomed• Horse should display no resistance – lead rope and halter should be properly adjusted and appear tonot be necessary in the horse’s performance.• Handler should not touch the horse to cue for movements. Athletes touching their horse should notexpect a zero for that maneuver, but will be marked down.• Correct hand positioning should be used to cue for each maneuver.
