Interviewed by summer intern Molly Bell ‘10Holy Family Catholic High SchoolMentorship ProgramMelissa is pictured with Bekele, a student she sponsors at BestrateGabriel School, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia.Melissa LivermoreDean for Academic Supportand Mathematics TeacherFamily: Married to HF teacherNick Livermore; two sonsEthan, 10 and Dominic, 7.Hobbies: Camping, rock climbing, biking, and spendingtime with her family. What first brought you to Holy Family? We were living in Iowa and looking for positions in Minnesota and Colorado asMr. Livermore had just finished his degree. I don’t recall how I heard about thisposition but I remember being very nervous for my interview, even came outto Victoria the day before to make sure I knew where I was going. As soon as Iwalked through the door I felt as if I belonged here. Most alumni know you as a math teacher but you currently work as thedean of academic support - what are your responsibilities under thisjob title? The most important and rewarding part of my position is working with students, parents, teachers and counselors to ensure that each student has the opportunityto be successful in the classroom. I thoroughly enjoy the problem solvingaspect of the position, whether it is fitting classes into a schedule or creatingopportunities for struggling learners. What has been your favorite part of working at HF?I know it sounds cliché but Holy Family truly is a family. Not only do the staffand current student body come together every day to pray and celebrate eachother, we are there for our families long after graduation. We come together asa larger family to celebrate accomplishments and tragedies no matter how longit has been since you walked our halls. I feel so blessed to be a part of thiswonderful, life-giving family. What is your favorite part about the Holy Family mission trips you havechaperoned?Having chaperoned trips to an orphanage in Guatemala, schools in Africa, andhomeless shelters in Minnesota, I find mission trips a wonderful opportunity tosee the world and learn about a different culture firsthand while giving back.My favorite part of the service trips is being able to watch the students stretch, grow and be forever changed by the experience. Is there a way for alumni to get involved in sharing information about thecollege they attended with current high school students? We love it when alumni come and share information about their college withour students. The guidance area is available every day during lunch periods forcollege representatives. All you have to do is contact Mrs. Roatch (roatchm@hfchs.org) to schedule a time to come in. Consider spending an hour or so withus whenever you are back in the area! The Holy Family Mentorship Program connectsexperienced professionals includingHoly Family parents, community membersand alumni with alumni or current studentsexploring careers and seeking advice.Alumni often mentor soon to be graduatesof Holy Family or other alumni in their firstor second year of college regarding collegepathways and opportunities.• Human Resources & Labor• Engineering & Technology• Marketing & Advertising• Broadcast Journalism• Medicine & Dentistry• Legal & Acquisitions• Finance & Banking• Sales Management• Entrepreneurship• Education• Catholic VocationsIf you are interested in mentoring a fellowalumni or HF student or would like to beconnected to one of our mentors, pleasecontact Alumni Relations Coordinator LauraPodergois at podergoisl@hfchs.org or 952-443-1955.We’ve made it easyto update yourinformation:1.
