Prerequisite: Junior Standing.Text: “<strong>Management</strong> – A Practical IntroductionRobbins, S., and Coulter, M., (2007) <strong>Management</strong> 9 th Ed., Prentice Hall,ISBN: 0132257734Learning Outcomes: The student should be able to demonstrate throughobjective and subjective testing as well as written or spoken presentation:• The importance <strong>of</strong> management principles in business decisions.• The critical business skills sets required to plan and manage operationaland strategic activities.• The key management strategies from an executive perspective withpractical applications.• The domestic and global implications <strong>of</strong> management principles / policieson E-commerce, the Internet, entrepreneurship, ethics, continuousimprovement, virtual organizations, cultural diversity, outsourcing, andstrategic alliances.• The importance <strong>of</strong> social responsibility from an executive managementperspective.• The growing importance <strong>of</strong> global economic development and its impacton management today.• The importance <strong>of</strong> management and the organizational membersresponsible for developing management strategies in our emerging globalmarketplace.Expectations <strong>of</strong> Students: Students are expected to complete readingassignments on the specified due dates. Discussion Board postings, exams, andprojects are expected to be submitted to the instructor on the dates due (SeeCourse Calendar located on main page <strong>of</strong> Black board course site).All students are subject to the academic integrity and behavioral expectations <strong>of</strong>the University.


Formatting Requirements: The “project” will be formatted in APA format.Grading Criteria: Submission <strong>of</strong> all graded items is required to pass the course.Tests (midterm and final)-------------------------------------400 pointsResearch Exercise---------------------------------------------200 pointsCriterion-----------------------------------------------------------100 pointsDiscussion Board (5-7 postings per week)---------------300 pointsA. The discussion board portion <strong>of</strong> the class accounts for 300 points /30%<strong>of</strong> the student’s final grade.B. A midterm and final exam will be given consisting <strong>of</strong> either a 40 M/C,T/F, matching, / fill in the blank type questions and three short answeressay questions OR 10 essay type questions. Each exam accountsfor 200 points / 20% <strong>of</strong> the student’s final grade.C. Research Exercise : Each student is required to complete a researchproject. The research exercise will consist <strong>of</strong> a 5+page wordprocesseddouble spaced APA style document. The project consists<strong>of</strong> an area <strong>of</strong> interest to the student under the umbrella <strong>of</strong>management. The student will email to the instructor the area <strong>of</strong>interest for the research exercise by the end <strong>of</strong> week 1. The projectaccounts for 20% <strong>of</strong> the student’s final grade.D. The Criterion requirement will be detailed with instruction in separatecorrespondence. These instructions will be located in the CourseDocuments folder <strong>of</strong> Blackboard Course site. Students may miss only 15% <strong>of</strong> classes. Any student missing morethan 15% <strong>of</strong> classes may fail the course due to a lack <strong>of</strong> attendance. DistanceEducation students will be required to fulfill the weekly assignment andparticipation requirements set forth in their instructor’s syllabus.Grading Policy: Official grades are issued for each student at the end <strong>of</strong> eachterm. Distance Education courses will go as scheduled.Scheduled outages in regard to the Blackboard server will be promulgated assoon as possible.Incomplete Work: A grade <strong>of</strong> Incomplete (I) will be submitted after aconsultation with the Instructor / Student when a significant portion <strong>of</strong> therequired work is not completed.Internet/Email Requirements: This course may be web-supported or may utilizeemail for some assignments. Students are required to have and regularlymonitor their <strong>Campbell</strong> University email account. This will be the email by whichthe student will be contacted.Missed Classes: Students who are aware that they will miss a class shouldinform the instructor before class. Scheduled class assignments (tests, quizzes,etc.) may be re-scheduled or made-up with a prearranged, excused absence.Plagiarism: Plagiarism is any use <strong>of</strong> another person’s words or ideas withoutgiving proper credit to the person from whom you borrowed the words or ideas.Plagiarism is the theft <strong>of</strong> intellectual property. Plagiarism includes the following:- Failing to cite properly any direct or indirect quotation(s) frompr<strong>of</strong>essionally written materials (books, journal articles, etc.) student papers,projects, presentations, etc.- Submitting as your own work a paper, project, or presentation that you didnot compose (that is, write, compile, draw, etc.)
