FAME GAME: CONFESSIONS OF A PUBLICITY STUNTMAN<br />

as ‘the Obi-Wan Kenobi of PR’ in conversation with Peter Dunne, former<br />

Head of International Publicity at DreamWorks together provide a unique<br />

insight into the global publicity tactics of the film industry. Are the new<br />

digital social networking tools so far removed from the guerrilla tactics of<br />

the old Hollywood stuntsters? From viral stunts to word of mouth via the<br />

devices of the suppress agents, a fun hour for all interested in the underbelly<br />

This year, the <strong>Raindance</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> boldly enters the digital age with this<br />

exciting new short film competition created by <strong>Raindance</strong>.tv. Running<br />

throughout September, filmmakers around the world were invited to submit<br />

their 60-second short films to Dailymotion. A panel of industry experts,<br />

headed up by multi-award winning director Michael Winterbottom, shortlisted<br />

ten films which will be honoured here with a special gala screening<br />

and award presentation. The grand prize winner will be heading off to the<br />

Cannes <strong>Festival</strong>, courtesy of <strong>Raindance</strong> and Dailymotion. Watch all the<br />

DELTA UK SHORTS SCREENING & RECEPTION [INVITE ONLY]<br />

THURSDAY 9 OCTOBER AT 6PM – THE REX<br />

A special invite-only event showcasing this year’s Best UK Short nominees,<br />

sponsored by Delta. The films to be honoured this year are Broken<br />

by Vicki Psarias, Like Other People Do by Alex Kelly, Ottica Zero by Maja<br />

Borg, Player by Mary Nighy and Red Sands by David Procter. The screening<br />

of each film will be followed by a drinks reception.<br />

KODAK CINEMATOGRAPHY MASTERCLASS<br />

THURSDAY 9 OCTOBER AT 6:30PM – CINEWORLD 4<br />

A surprise cinematographer will show examples of their work and talk<br />

about their career in the film industry. The event will include an interview<br />

and Q&A, utilising film clips. Past masterclasses have included Phil Meheux<br />

(Scum, Casino Royale), Brian Tufano (Trainspotting, Billy Elliot) and Kelvin<br />

Pike (Dr Strangelove, The Shining).<br />

HMV SPECIAL GUEST SCREENING: GILES MARTIN<br />

THURSDAY 9 OCTOBER AT 9PM – THE REX<br />

HMV continues its association with <strong>Raindance</strong> this year with a special<br />

presentation of All Together Now, a new documentary focused on the<br />

Beatles/Cirque du Soleil collaboration Love. From an idea sparked by the<br />

late George Harrison, the show was completed under considered guidance<br />

from Olivia Harrison, Yoko Ono, Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney.<br />

We are honoured to have Giles Martin, son of ‘fifth Beatle’ George Martin,<br />

in attendance to discuss his and his father’s involvement with the project<br />

and the making of the film.<br />

ANATOMY OF A REEL – MARK TONDERAI<br />

SATURDAY 11 OCTOBER AT 4:30PM – CINEWORLD 4<br />

In Anatomy of a Reel Mark Tonderai and his key heads of department<br />

breakdown the first reel of the thriller Hush from idea to final cut. The reel<br />

will be pulled apart and looked at from the perspective of the writer, director,<br />

DoP, composer and editor in their singular effort to create a suspense<br />

story. What makes the cut, what doesn’t and why – forms answers about<br />

what a thriller is. Within this structure they will also provide a snapshot on<br />

the stresses of making a low budget feature film not look like a low budget<br />

feature film to compete on the global market.<br />

FINAL CUT PRO – GRAPHICS & SFX<br />

SATURDAY 11 OCTOBER AT 4PM – REX CINEMA<br />

Tony Dickie (producer) and Ben Foakes (director) of Sequence Training<br />

Ltd (Apple’s flagship training centre) will offer an introduction and analysis<br />

of Final Cut Pro in the current marketplace. Their 2008 BBC1 Grand<br />

National opening titles represent a unique and highly advanced use of the<br />

integral tools found within Final Cut Studio. The 40 second HD film shows<br />

a group of race horses running through the streets of Liverpool and racing<br />

into the Aintree circuit, charging for the finish line. The piece was entirely<br />

edited, composited and graded using Final Cut Studio and displays just<br />

how far the kit can be pushed in the right hands.<br />
