Eduardo J. Padrón, President of Miami Dade College, is an economist by training;he came to the United States from Cuba as a refugee. During his career, he has beenselected to serve on posts of national prominence by six American presidents. Mostrecently, President Obama appointed him Chairman of the White House Initiativeon Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. He serves on the boards of theCouncil on Foreign Relations, the Business/Higher Education Forum, the League forInnovation (former chair), rc-2020, the College Board Advocacy and Policy Center,the White House Fellows Selection Panel (chair), the International Association ofUniversity Presidents, and others.Carl H. Pforzheimer iii is Manager of chipco Asset Management, llc, and of CarlH. Pforzheimer & Co. llc. He has chaired the boards of the National HumanitiesCenter, Pace University, and the Horace Mann-Barnard School, and was president ofthe Scarsdale public schools. A board member at The New York Public Library and theCorning Museum of Glass and past President of the Harvard Alumni Association, hewas elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002 and servesas a member of the Academy’s Trust.Earl A. Powell iii, an expert in nineteenth- and twentieth-century European andAmerican art, is the Director of the National Gallery of Art. He is Chairman of theU.S. Commission of Fine Arts and serves as a trustee of the American Federationof the Arts, the Association of Art Museum Directors, the Morris and GwendolynCafritz Foundation, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the NationalTrust for Historic Preservation, the Norton Simon Museum, and the White HouseHistorical Association, among others. In addition to journal articles and exhibitioncatalogue essays, he has authored a monograph on the nineteenth-century Americanartist Thomas Cole. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts andSciences in 2005.Hunter R. Rawlings iii is President of the Association of American Universities. Aclassicist who served as President of Cornell University and President of the Universityof Iowa, he is the author of The Structure of Thucydides’ History. He chaired both theAssociation of American Universities and the Ivy Council of Presidents and serves onthe boards of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens and the NationalAcademy Foundation. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts andSciences in 1995.John Sexton became President of New York University in 2001. He is also nyu’sBenjamin Butler Professor of Law and Dean Emeritus of the Law School. He is a memberof the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the Board of the Institute ofInternational Education.
