Exclusive Folding KnivesPXL - a sturdy pieceBig and modernThe PXL is a modern, slightly bigger foldingknife for day-to-day use. The stainless, adjustableblade is manufactured in laminated powdersteel (3G) which means that it retains an edgeextremely well. The handle is made of stainlesssteel and Micarta, but different types of mountingsmay be introduced in the future. The bladelock is of the liner-lock type: You can open andclose the knife with one hand. The PXL is offeredwith a strong, removable clip which allows quickand comfortable access to the knife. Note thatthis folding knife is a precision-assembled, extremelysharp tool and should be use with care. The PXLwh is the work horse in the PXL series. It is a robust, strong, lightweight, and extremelyreliable folding knife in the larger size range. Theblade is made in our brand new laminated cobaltspecial steel and it brings an unlikely sharpnessthat will last longer than you think. The bladelocks in open position with a proven liner-locksystem. Because of the small thumbstud on theblade, it folds easily using only one hand, whichis very practical when you have to stick to yourselfor another thing with the opposite hand. Noris there any trick to open the blade with one hand. The handle is also made with a newly developedmaterial which we call Grilon and it is consideredto be among the most reliable of all plastics.Caring for the knifeA folding knife can naturally never be as strongas a sheath knife, since it is built with a numberof moving parts. If you subject the folding knifeto heavy use, it invariably leads to a loose blade, and no guarantee covers this.A modern folding knife should be regularlycleaned with warm water and mild washing-upliquid. Oil and grease should be avoided as far aspossible, since today’s knives have self-lubricatingbearings. Grease etc. contracts dust and dirtand increase wear rather than reducing it.The easiest way to sharpen the knife is to use afine diamond whetstone and to achieve the lastrazor sharp edge, use a ceramic whetstone. Seeour DC3 and DC4 whetstones.GuaranteeThe two-year guarantee covers manufacturingflaws and defects, i.e. faults that occur duringmanufacturing and which are not noticeable untilone starts to use the knife. The guarantee coversnormal use of the knife and becomes invalid ifthe knife is used incorrectly.U1This folding knife is a bit special – it combines modern steeltechnology with a hundred year old, folding knife design.Mod. U1 lacks a blade lock. This means that, in manycountries, it will most likely be considered as a pocket knife, and therefore be allowed to be carried in public places. Theblade is instead held in place with an spring steel key, atechnique which has been in use for more than a hundredyears and which ensures that the blade does not fold. Theblade is made of laminate powder steel (3G), and thisguarantees edge retention beyond the ordinary. The handleis made from stainless liners with the sides in cocobolo. Itis delivered with a slim-fit black cordura sheath. With nailnicksin both sides, the knife is completely symmetrical andis as easily handled by both left-handed and right-handedusers.U2This is the world’s first folding knife with a blade oflaminated powder steel, the now well-proven Super GoldPowder Steel, SGPS. Powder steel is extremely costly anddifficult to work with, and requires advanced technologicalknowledge in combination with experienced knife makers. The advantage of this steel lies in its outstanding edgeretention: there is simply nothing comparable today. Theslim handle consists of strong composite material, whichmakes the knife light and pleasant to carry. With nail-nickson both sides, the knife is completely symmetrical and it isas easy to use for both right-handers and left -handers. Thetraditional lock back function offers no unpleasant surprises, but locks the blade in its open position with a distinct reliableclick.U4At first glance, the Mod. U4 is a seemingly modest penknife. No one would give it a second look when you pulled it fromyour pocket to peel the apple, open that letter, or cut astring. But looking closer one notices that the blade consistsof high-grade powder steel with an edge that stays sharpfor a very long time. Holding the knife in your hand youwould also notice the lightweight (22 grams) design. Theblade locks for added safety and the symmetrical designallows for use by both right- and left-handers. The Mod. U4is an excellent knife for carrying in your pocket, giving youa strong tool in a small package. Someone described theknife as resembling a wolf’s tooth and there just may besomething to that. You might say the Mod U4 is “A Wolf inSheep’s Clothing”.P3GMany are won over by the simple but advanceddesign and the size is manifestly just right for bothhunters and anglers. The knife is easy to clean, since it is open along the back of the handle. The ability to fold the blade both in and out withone hand is a detail as practical as it is smartand the tight liner-lock function feels secure. The drop-point shaped blade is manufactured inrust resistant laminated powder steel (3G) andhandle in cocobolo. The blade, a massiveone to say the least, in rust resistant laminatedsteel expresses raw strength, combined witha fantastic bite. It is clear to all that this isan item intended solely for specialists, i.e.woodsmen with long experience of usingedged implements. There is no doubt that thisis a chopper to withstand heavy use; but forthose who learn to handle the knife, it is alsoa flexible tool that can carry out practicallyany job that might be required of a knife.Magnificent and incredibly beautiful! A trustycompanion!NL2 OdenTogether with Thor, the one-eyed Oden (orWoden) was the highest-ranking god in theNorse sagas. He was the ancestor of godsand humans - riding his eight-legged horseSleipner and accompanied by his bearers ofknowledge, the two ravens Hugin and Munin,he was the undisputed ruler of Valhalla. Unlike earliermodels in the Northern Lights series, NL5 is alittle rounder and softer in form, and thereforean excellent choice for a hunting knife. Thestraight, fairly generous grip in leather givescomplete control over the powerful blade inlaminated VG10 steel, and makes the knife atool as attractive as it is effective in the handsof the experienced hunter.NL5cx IDUNIt is our pleasure to present one of the world’smost advanced hunting knives – Mod. Add to thisa comfortable, secure, hygienic handle, and you have a combination that ispractically impossible to beat. For thoseallergic to nickel, these knives should beperfect. Two favorites in the kitchen!Mod. K1 is the classic chef’s knife, withan edge that cuts in both directions. K2 is a must for the modernkitchen! Finely sliced, fresh vegetablesare not only good for our well-being - theyare also eye pleasing and very tasty. Onlythe perfectly designed Japanese santokuknife can achieve this.New quality conceptF2, F3 and F4 are a new concept in high-qualityknives intended for opening, butcheringand cleaning fish. They are based on the wellshaped, secure F handle and we have developedthree blade shapes, each adapted to itsspecial purpose. Unlike many other manufacturerswe persist in using really good edgingsteel and even if it leads to products that are5 or 10 times more expensive, we feel that theconcept is right. A cheap dressing knife is characterizedby poor edge retention, leading to itfairly soon being honed to destruction, whilea knife from us can be used for decades. Notonly does this lead to good overall economy, but also offers satisfaction and safety at work.Naturally, it doesn´t need to be put away afterthe hunting, but can also serve its purpose inthe kitchen. The knives are supplied with azytel edge protector. The best, simplest andquickest way to sharpen them is with a diamondwhetstone or diamond sharpening steel:see our products DC4 and D12.F2This knife has a broad range of use. The short, fairly slender blade works well for filleting, cuttingand cleaning fish. The short blade makesthe knife something of a favorite in the kitchen. It cuts anything quickly and precisely.F3This is the perfect dressing and skinning knife! The form of the blade is ideal to skin somewhatlarger game and then open it beforehanging. Since the edge can be made thinwithout losing in strength, the edge will easilypart the thickest skin, which the user shouldperhaps bear in mind – to avoid mishaps.F4When separating somewhat larger cuts it isa clear advantage to have a longer blade: itgives a more even, cleaner cut. Hunting KnivesWM1 - The little favorite! In most cases, a 7 cm long blade issufficient for hunting, especially if it is3 mm thick and convex ground so thatit is both strong and sharp. Initially, wethought that WM1 would be a specialknife for hunters of small game, but as itturned out many other types of customerswere interested in this model. Then, when we offered a plastic sheath, whichallowed the knife to be carried around theneck or in any pocket, it became a totalsuccess! Mountain climbers, canoeists, mountain bikers, hikers - everyone sawhow incredibly smart it is to carry theknife round the neck, easy to see, andimmediately accessible. The same sheathcan be just as easily attached to the belt.If you want considerably improved edgeretention, this handy knife also comeswith a blade in laminated powder steel, called WM1/3G.H1 - The hunter´s dreamAlthough the material in this knife is hightech, the design comes from classic NorthScandinavian knife making traditions. Thelong skinning curve, in combination withthe elegantly formed tip, make this knifesomething of a big game hunter’s dream- one of the world’s best hunting knives. The blade ridge is no less than 5 mmthick, but the edge is still sharp and stableenough to cut wood, because it is convexground. The full handle, in checkedThermorun, gives a sure and comfortablegrip. Since the knife lacks a finger-guard,an advanced knife, such as Mod. H1, isbest suited to experienced hunters orwoodsmen. A molded plastic sheath inzytel is added. Hunters normally tend tolike knives with extreme edge retentionand, for them, we now have the H1 withlaminated powder steel 3G, the H1/3G.Unbeatable!PHK - The big game knifeThe Professional Hunter’s Knife (PHK) is in ouropinion one of the world’s best hunting knivesfor big game, in which function, safety andhygiene are paramount. The blade’s specialupsweep drop-point gives a long flayingcurve without making it look wide or clumsy. The rust-resistant laminated powder steel 3Ggives a blade that is strong and which keepsan edge well. The handle in tough Thermorunand a stainless finger guard gives a safe, comfortable grip regardless of the conditions. There is perhaps no better hunting knife forbig game.Zytel sheathThe injection moulded zytel sheath offersa compact, strong and secure combinationof properties expected to make it extremelyattractive to all users.Tricky but funOf course, you need to do some extra hardthinking when after a great deal of effort youbegin to design something that is to end up asa hunting knife for big game. The concept fora new design has been there for a few years, but it is still a big step to determine the exactdimensions and to get there is like crossinga minefield. Misjudging something by a singlemillimetre will mean that an expected successinstead becomes a complete disaster! Thismeans you have to be able to trust your ownjudgement. The power of the mediaThere were times when a person wasconsidered a better hunter if the length of theblade was no more than 7.5 cm and huntingmagazines did not hesitate to join in. Throughthe power of the media, all hunters weresuddenly supposed to carry short-bladedknives so as not to be different. OK, a shortknife blade functions in most situations whenone is cleaning prey, but in all honesty – isn’t itmore a question of knowing where to place theedge? Look at an experienced butcher andyou will soon notice a knife blade that is 13cm or longer. Survival and Rescue KnivesF1 – our first knife! It took us eight years to developthe mod. F1, a knife that is in usetoday with the Swedish Air Forceas a survival knife. The result fromextensive field-testing, carried outon hot summer days and ice-coldwinter nights, was an advanced,well-designed and safe knife, wherestrength and modern design go handin-hand.The fact that it is also verywell thought of by the civilian markettestifies to its incredible versatility. The combination of resilient, laminated special steel and sure gripis attractive to most. Many get onvery well with this knife, which overthe years has become something ofa signature for our company. Is therea better knife this size?F1 BlackThere are moments when you wishto avoid reflects from your blade andthen the black CeraCoat 8H F1b isthe option for you. This extremelytough surface will also protect theblade from any corrosion agent.F1/3GMany years ago, when we beganthe development of our now famousknife series Tre Kronor, we wantedto test something new: A completelyunknown laminated powder steel. Our own tests went well, but we alsowanted to test the steel on the openmarket in order, so to speak, to beon the safe side. So, we manufactured110 peices of F1-knives usingthis 3G steel, knives which were thensold all over the world. The reactionswere, to say the least, positive. Andso we could start manufacturing ourmost exclusive knife series.Today we are using this 3G steel ina great number of models, includingthe F1 knife.PRKMaking a police and rescue knife isa serious undertaking - a person’slife can depend on its ability to functioncorrectly if anything should gowrong. Years of development workand experience lie behind the designwhich has resulted in an extremelystrong and reliable knife for use indangerous situations. The newly developedcobalt specialty steel, and itsfinish (Black Ceracoat) also makesthe knife very suitable for boats andships – the PRK is the first advancedboat knife in the world. The partiallyserrated blade cuts extremely quicklyin porous but tough materials (hawsers, nylon ropes, seat belts, etc) andthanks to the very special steel theblade holds an edge extremely well. This knife is a result of our cooperationwith the Riot Police squad in Malmoe. We are most grateful for theirinput and good advises.Philosophy and art of knife makingIt is no wonder that Leonardo da Vincistill, five centuries after his death, affects our lives and our view of theoutside world. Leonardo is consideredone of the world’s leading universalgenius and his ideas about proportions,e g, govern us today. He was amaster to at the same time form a distinctand precise, yet erased universalpicture but that is perhaps the verything that shows his greatness.Of course, we don’t compare ourselveswith this master, but what isexciting to note is the tremendousimpact our sales of model F1 has gotworld-wide. Here we find that the proportionscorrespond so well that theyneed not to be explained, both eyeand hand accept the concept whendirect contact occurs. Finally, we alsoadd an excellent steel that is bothstrong and holds an edge well and allthis puts the F1 knife on top, aroundthe world. Some items must never fail andhave got to withstand practically anything.Mod. A2 is an example of a strong knife thatwill never let you down, a knife that withstandsheavy use. The reason for its remarkableperformance is that we use a newly developedlaminated rust resistant steel, where the edgeconsists of our now famous VG10, and wherethe sides are made from resilient 420J2 steel. The combination of these different types ofsteel gives a blade that both retains its edgevery well and is fantastically strong. Sincewe ship this knife with a convex edge, it issuitable for both cutting and chopping. A wellsewnsheath in extra strong leather is added. For expeditions and hard outdoor life, Mod.A2 is a given companion.MC1 - the mine clearance knifeThe development of the Mod. MC1resulted from an official request from aNATO country. The knife has been usedin mine clearance since spring 2002. Theway the blade is ground is, in itself, wortha little extra attention - we start with a rawpiece of steel, over 6 mm thick, and use agrindstone with a very large diameter. Thisgives a slightly concave profile, which wefinish with convex grinding - by hand! Theresult is an edge that is extremely sharp, but also robust. The handle is made outof grip safe Kraton, a material which hasa good stability and is totally insensitive tosolvents, oils and DEET. The tang is of abroad, protruding type and is visible at theend of the grip, as in many of our knives. The knife is shipped with a double lockingZytel sheath.G1 - Garm FighterMod. G1 is a small, interesting sheathknife for military use. We use advancedspecial steel, our now famous VG10, toensure strength and good edge retention. The blade is coated in black Ceracoat8H to prevent reflections and corrosion. The symmetrical handle, in Thermorun, gives the best possible grip. The knife isshipped with a Zytel sheath that allows, for example, the knife to be carried roundthe neck, if this is preferred to having theknife in a pocket.

Whetstones & AccessoriesCombination whetstonesThe DC3 and DC4 sharpeners are newlydeveloped combination whetstones, where one side (the bright one) is afine diamond whetstone (25 micron),and the other (the dark one) is a fineceramic whetstone. A leather case isincluded. The yellow surface consists oftitanium aluminum nitride (TAN) whichconsiderably prolongs the functionallife of the whetstone. We recommend acombination of diamond and ceramic, where the diamond whetstone restoresthe wedge form of the blade edge andthe ceramic whetstone smoothes theedge to obtain long-term sharpness. Most of the time the sharpness providedby the diamond whetstone is more thanenough.DC521 is a bench stone of a less commoncategory, since it offers two different kindsof stones. The yellow part is a fast andaggressive diamond stone, while thedark is a slow, very fine ceramic stone. Both surfaces are precision flat, whichis a prerequisite for perfect sharpeningresults. The diamond stone works fastand should be used if the edge is verythick. The sharpness obtained is usuallyenough for everyday tasks. The ceramicwhetstone works slower and givesa smoother, razor-sharp edge whennecessary. For tools and chef knives, thisbench stone is among the best we canoffer. It comes in a nice gift box.DF24If you haven’t tried this diamond stone, you have a pleasant surprise in front ofyou. This lightweight, handy sharpener isincredibly good at sharpening all kinds ofcutting tools because of the good handle.Diamonds deliver a really good edge onany blade steel you try it on, no problems. In addition, you don’t need to mess withoil or water and if you think the DF24feels soft, wash it off with warm waterand some detergent. At first, the diamondstone is a little rough but after a shortbreak-in period, it delivers a very smoothand sharp edge, good enough for almostall purposes. The diamonds are held inplace in the matrix by a layer of titaniumaluminum nitride which greatly extendsthe life of the sharpening stone.Fine sharpening steelModel D12 is an oval, fine diamondsharpening steel for use with kitchenknives. The C12 steel is ceramic and isused after the diamond steel to obtain along-term edge. We recommend thesesteels, since we know they work on alltype of knives, especially knives withblades of special steel or powder steel. How to sharpen the knifeWhen a knife becomes dull, the wedgeform of the edge has become so roundedthat its original appearance must berestored before the knife can cut again. This can be managed for a long time witha whetstone, but eventually the angleneeds to be reset. This is done with thehelp of a grindstone or belt driven knifegrinder, both water-cooled.How to use the whetstonesLay the blade flat on the whetstone, raisethe ridge of the blade by its own thicknessand move the blade in circles or figuresof eight. Alternatively, try cutting thinslices from the whetstone! Impossible,of course, but now you are holding theknife at the right angle and making theright movement. Start with the diamondwhetstone, and finish with the ceramicwhetstone. The ink trickIt can be difficult to see where on theedge the whetstone is working, but thefollowing trick can make it much easier.Color the edge with a marker or similarand it will immediately be easier to seeexactly where the sharpening occurs.Test the sharpnessThe best way to check the sharpness is todraw very lightly the edge on a fingernail. You can feel directly whether the knife issharp or not, and this is a fairly safe wayto test the sharpness.Convex edgeSeveral of our knives have a convex edge(axe edge). This kind of edge can seemdifficult to sharpen. However, if you usea handheld diamond whetstone and theabove mentioned ink trick, it is fairly easyto sharpen the convex edge, but as witheverything, practice makes perfect.Grinding serviceAfter some years’ active use, the edgefinally becomes so thick that the bladeneeds to be re-ground, that is, slimmeddown so that you can continue to use awhetstone or steel on your knife. If youdo not have access to machines or theknow-how to do this, you can send theknife to us for re-grinding. We grind theknife in-house, restoring it practically tothe original form and finish.

Fällkniven AB in briefWe are a genuine family firm, with roots deepin the soil of Norrbotten (in Sweden). We havehunted and fished for decades, and knowfrom experience how a knife should work. Thecompany was founded in 1984 and today weare considered one of the world’s foremostknife specialists. We began developing our ownknives in 1987 and this is now the main operationat Fällkniven AB.We have gained great experience during theyears through close contacts with both customersand manufacturers. This knowledge, we now useto make the world’s leading specialized knife.Because of this, we’re today Purveyor to HisMajesty the King of Sweden.SheathsWe have paid special attention to manufacturingsheaths that are as functional as possible, since it is the sheath that determines the knife’saccessibility. We are alone in offering severaldifferent sheaths for each model. Generally, youcan choose between an attractive, well-sewnleather sheath and an all -weather mouldedsheath of super strong zytel. The leather sheathshould not be greased, but treated with shoepolish or wax, for example, to make it waterrepellent.Design philosophyEach knife is the result of years of hard work andtesting. Besides our own tests, we commissionLuleå University of Technology to test thebreaking strength of our knives – see our website. This means that you can rely on our knives, evenin extreme situations. We are the only firm in theworld that only uses exclusive special steel, which assures that our knives are of the highestlevel of quality.Rust-resistant special steelVG10 is a costly steel that is hard to work, butwhich, when correctly hardened and tempered, gives a blade that is resilient and hard, as well aspractically stainless. Nowadays, we hardly everuse anything but laminated blades, as these areabout 20% stronger than a solid blade. With anouter layer of 420J2 and an edge made of VG10you get a blade that is extremely strong andretains its sharpness for a very long time.Lam.CoSSome say that all good steel already aredeveloped - we are not sure about that.Till now, we haven’t disclosed much informationabout our new laminated Cobalt Special steelbut what we can say is - this is a new, very goodsteel! The alloy mix is C 1.1%. Cr. 16%. W0.3%. Mo 1.5%. V 0.3%. Co 2.5%. As with ourother steel, this steel will be used as a centresteel, with 420J2 layers, and we usually bring ahardness of around HRC 60 to the centre steel. We have tested the CoS steel at the CATRAtest laboratories in UK and found very goodqualities.A reflection we made when testing the cobaltsteel is that this steel gets scary sharp. Wehave actually never seen a steel which gets soincredibly sharp. And, our field tests show upona very good edge retention and no signs ofedge break. The only negative matter is that it isaround 50-60% more expensive than the VG10steel. Our experience of this new Cobalt Specialsteel is so good that we believe that quite manynew knife models will have this steel. Still, wewon’t reject the 3G or VG10 steels, they haveproven to be extremely reliable.Damascus steelThe art of manufacturing Damascus steel is morethan a thousand years old. By forging togetherlayers of different types of steel, we obtain ablade that is both beautiful and strong. In theexclusive sheath knife NL5cx, we have addeda powder steel (Cowry X) thereby combiningextreme sharpness with unusual beauty.Powder steelOur experience with laminated powder steel isvery good. Although powder steel is expensiveand difficult to work, we believe that in the futurequality knives will have an edge of powdersteel, since no other material rivals it for edgeretention. You find powder steel in more than halfof our products and that percentage will increasein the future.Black bladesThe black Teflon coating protects the blade fromcorrosive substances and eliminates unwantedreflections. Our new Ceracoat 8H coating isas strong as one could wish for – achieving along term black coating on a completely smoothstainless surface, is not possible, which iswhy it should not be expected it to withstandany amount of rough handling. For salt-waterenvironments etc., we recommend knives withthis black surface.Handle materialThe shape, hardness and material of thehandle ensure the knife’s ergonomic design andsureness of grip. Wear-resistance, sensitivity tochemicals and UV light are parameters optimallyadapted in order that the knife shall work safelyfor many years.WarrantyWe offer a two-year guarantee covering materialand manufacturing defects, i.e. defects that ariseduring manufacture but are not discovered untilthe knife is in use. A defect is generally discoveredwithin half a year, not after several years. Werepair or replace the knife. The guarantee is notvalid if the knife has been used incorrectly — theknife is a precision cutting implement and is notto be used for levering or prising. Discoloringcaused by blood, salt-water or other corrosivesubstances is not covered by the guarantee, neither are broken blade points. The sheath willbe replaced if faults in the original manufacturingare found.Care instructions — sheath knifeThe easiest way to take care of a knife is to keepit clean and dry. Wash it in water with a smallamount of washing-up liquid and make surethat it is properly dried afterwards. The bladeneeds not be oiled or greased, however somehandles will acquire a deeper and more beautifulpatina if it is treated with wood oil or linseed oil.The leather sheath does not in fact need anymaintenance, but a silicone based shoe creamor wax will improve the water resistant propertiesof the surface. Grease should not be used sinceit makes the leather soft.Care instructions - folding knifeSince a folding knife is manufactured with severalmoving parts, it naturally cannot be as strong asa sheath knife. If a folding knife is subjected toheavy-handed treatment, it will invariably result ina loose blade, with unreliable blade locking. Thisis not covered by the guarantee. A suitable wayto clean a modern folding knife is with water anda little washing-up liquid. Oil and grease shouldbe avoided as far as possible since today’sfolding knives have self-lubricating bearings.Grease and similar substances attract dust anddirt and increase rather than reduce wear.IllustrationWe wish to dedicate a special “thanx” for thebeutiful water color creations that you can find atsome places in this catalog.
