Year 10 and 11 students at Gleeson
will have exams in Week 8 of this term.
For our Year 10 students it will be their
fi rst experience of exams and this can
be daunti ng for some students. At Year
10 the exams may be viewed as long
tests that give the students a chance
to show what they have learned in the
fi rst Semester of Senior School; they
should be viewed as an opportunity,
not a threat.
The Year 11 students have some
experience of the examinati on process
and in many cases the exams count for
their SACE grade. For both year levels
though, the lead up to the exams is a
learning process in itself. I know that
some students have started a revision
program in their ‘harder’ subjects but
all students should be revising work
from last term as a part of their weekly
homework routi ne. The idea of doing
a litt le study oft en and regularly is
substanti ally bett er that giving one
enormous eff ort the night before the
exam. So start now, even a few minutes

Pentecost Sunday
This Sunday, May 27th, 50 days aft er
Easter, is Pentecost Sunday, celebrati ng
the end of the Easter Season and the
coming of the Holy Spirit upon the
Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Holy Spirit brings to us Gift s of
the Spirit including wisdom, courage,
knowledge and understanding; and
Fruits of the Spirit including love, joy,
pati ence, kindness and gentleness.
Let us pray that in our lives we can
recognize and affi rm the gift s of others,
using our gift s and the fruits of the Spirit
to bring love and hope to those in our
lives. Let us always be open to seeing the
acti on of the Holy Spirit in others and the
world around us:
Come, Holy Spirit, fi ll the hearts
of the faithful and kindle in us
the fi re of your love.
HPV Pedal Prix
This weekend will see the Gleeson
HPV (Human Powered Vehicles) team
competi ng in the HPV Pedal Prix – Round
1. The event is on this Sunday at Victoria
Park from 10:00-4:00pm. We have three
teams entered: Senior Secondary, Junior
Secondary and Open Division. All of
our teams are full, with the maximum
number of riders and we have a lot of
new riders in our Junior team. Quite
a few old scholars and teachers will be
riding in our Open team.
Maps are available on the Pedal Prix
website and we are in the pits near the
control centre this year. Hope to see you
there!
Knockout Sport
As you may have read in previous issues
of The Globe, many students have been
involved in State Knockout Sport over the
past couple of weeks. This competi ti on
sees schools from across the State pitt ed
against each other over two terms in a
variety of sports, culminati ng in a State
fi nal towards the end of the year.
At ti mes, these games will take students
out of their normal lessons so it is very
important that students are up-todate
with their school work and keen
to catch up on any work missed whilst
competi ng for the College. Parti cipati ng
students are required to check with their
subject teachers before playing in State
Knockout games to ensure that they stay
in touch with the curriculum.
Gleeson has a great record in these
competi ti ons and we are certainly
looking forward to a successful 2012.
