News from LSTCLSTC, Valparaiso University workingtogether in new waysTaking the next step on a dream that has been inthe works for 18 months, the presidents of LSTC andValparaiso University met on Valpo’s campus onSeptember 8 to sign a memorandum of understanding.The agreement will lead to Valparaiso Universityoffering a graduate Health Administration programfrom LSTC’s campus beginning in fall 2012.“Valparaiso University and the Lutheran Schoolof Theology at Chicago are partners in a faith tradition,”said Valparaiso University President MarkHeckler at the signing ceremony. “By workingtogether, we can do something that will be great forboth institutions.”LSTC’s Acting President Philip Hougen noted thatthe two schools share many values including commitmentsto diversity and a global perspective. “ValparaisoUniversity graduates have comprised the single largestgroup among LSTC students in recent years,” he said.Beginning in January 2012, Valparaiso Universitywill have an office on LSTC’s campus and will workon details of and recruitment for the Master’s inHealth Administration program. The 45-49 creditinterdisciplinary program will prepare students andprofessionals for careers and advancement in healthadministration.Offering this program on Chicago’s south sidewill allow access by the many professionals workingin area hospitals and health care facilities. It will alsoinvite local hospital administrators to serve as adjunctfaculty for the program. Valparaiso University’s programwill draw on the longstanding history of theLutheran Church’s active involvement in healthissues to prepare professionals for the ethical challengesinherent in medicine and health care.
