INTRODUCTIONWelcome to Bristol’sParenting Support DirectoryBristol City Council and its partners want to support parents and carers so thatthey have the confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding to build astrong family life which keeps children safe, healthy, happy and successful.‘Parenting support’ is a term that is used to describe any activity aimed at providinginformation, advice and support to parents and carers to help them in bringing uptheir children. This includes:• 1 to1 and parent group support• Parenting programmes and courses• Information, advice and guidance about parenting issues• Opportunities for parents to get involved and have a say• Resources to help parents do a good jobThis booklet has been produced for professionals working with families. Theinformation aims at helping practitioners identify which course or approach may bestsuit the needs of the parent/carer.The format includes an introduction to the service, programmes or approach, content,and how it can be accessed. We have included some useful contact numbers.If you are not clear which service best meets parents’ individual needs, and requiremore advice and support, please contact the service provider directly to find out more.We hope you find this directory useful.
