Out On Track.....Thruxton - Saturday 12 th OctoberThe Final Round of the 2013 Championship SeriesRuss Gardner(NG Road Racing Press Officer – Commentator – Bike Sport News Contributor)Tel : 01242 697907 ? Mobile : 07799 047 996 ? Mail : russelljohngardner@gmail.com ? Web : www.ngroadracing.org“Champions will be crowned.....”This MeetingThis is the final round of a hard fought championship season that kicked off at Brands Hatch. There have been many ups anddowns...twists and turns. But by now the best in each class are in prime spot for reap the rewars for all their efforts.Phil Bevan has continued his impressive run of from to take the Open and Powerbike series once more, but at this final roundhe will have to ride hard if he wants to end the year on a race winning note. Josh Day with his ZX10, along with Paul Shook,Steven Griffiths, Dale Thomas and Leigh Corfield will be gunning to end the year with a win.Local ace and former British 848 Ducati champ will wheel out his Italian machine to take on the very fast Austrian built KTMRC8’s of newly crowned champ Darren Rumley and Dave Mackay in the Sound of Thunder. But the race of the day is likely to be the 600cc open, where there a list of possible race winners that number more than adozen, headed by series leader Pete Carr. His list of rivals is long but Nick Anderson...Chris Hawkes... Marcus Williams...PaulJeffery... Dave Manley... Dale Thomas... Matt Ogden and Sean Montomery will be out to end the year on a high. Hang onnewcomers to the 600 class Thomas Williams and James Harrison will also be in the mix !!!With a full list of support classes including, Mini Twins, Streetstocks and the popular sidecars, it will be a great end to the yearThe CircuitThruxton is without doubt quick…. and I mean quick. Speed and power….and lots of it are vital. But a fast bike is not enough, the 2.356mile Thruxton circuit takes skill to ride fast, and bravery to master. With Superbikes able to lap at well over 105mphand topping out at 170mph plus the 40 strong grid is not a place for the feint -hearted. Expect the big bikes to push the pace, but do not be surprised if some of the 250 GP’s and 600’s start mixing it, as slipstreaming can keep the lighter bikes in touch. The FastestRacing is all about going fast, and the fastest of all around this 2.356 mile Thruxton circuit is Luke Jones, who got his very rapid675 Triumph Daytona around this fast open circuit at a average of 107.85mph. The 1min 18.77-second lap time was set inOctober last year, so could be ripe for the taking this weekend if the weather is good. The 250GP ACU National ChampionshipNG Road Racing are once more hosting the prestigious 250GP ACU National Championship. This is the only place that you willsee these machines competing in a full National championship backed by Dunlop and The ACU and 100% Suspension anywherein the UK. Reigning and therefore defending National champion Dan Jackson leads the current standings by just 9 points overChris Martin, who has taken 8 wins so far. Jackson took his first win of 2013 at Anglesey last time out, and Jackson knowsThruxton better than Martin……. A betting man might just have even-odds on the win for either man.The Phoenix Motorcycles OpenThis is the big one for the NG riders. It really is the best rider on the best bike that comes out on top. There is dedicated timedqualifying….longer races…and more laps on offer than any other class. That’s why it’s the premier club class with big end ofseason money from Phoenix Motorcycles of Trowbridge, all the top riders want to win. Defending champ Phil Bevan on his R1Yamaha sits at the top of the points table once more, but Josh Day will be out to rack up another win on his ZX10 Kawasaki.Keep an eye on…. Peter Carr…. Lee Davies ZX6R Kawasaki“Pistol Pete” Carr is looking to list his third class championship title in four years, and on three different machines. Pete, fromthe Isle of White won the Streetstocks on an R1 in 2010....took a year out in 2011 then came back in 2012 with a GP45 450Kawasaki, and won that. This year he has a 20-point lead in the 600cc open series. So a top ten placing will see him this yearswayside Garages 600 champ...... easier said than done though with such a strong National level grid !!!Wayside Garages Performance of the MeetingAs with every meeting there is the Performance of the Meeting Award. Open to everyone, this rewards one rider per meetingfor his or her efforts. It is not all about winning races (….. although that really helps !!!!), the judges take all classes and allriders into consideration. Last time out at it went to Thomas Williams on his R6 Yamaha.Bardahl Top-Oils Newcomers Performance Award (www.top-oils.co.uk)This is a new award for 2013 from Bardahl Top-Oils and rewards a newcomer for his or her efforts on track. This can either befor a good weekend result, or a one off performance against more experienced opposition.www.ngroadracing.org
