WHAT IS THE HEALTHY READINGSCHEME?There are very few people who will notencounter some emotional or psychologicaldifficulty during their life. Self help bookscan be a highly effective source of help, withor without prescribed medication or otherprofessional support.This leaflet lists high quality self help bookswhich have been recommended by healthprofessionals to assist with a variety ofemotional or psychological problems .Youcan borrow the recommended books free ofcharge from your local library.If you are not already a library member justcall in to your local branch where staff will behappy to assist you in joining.WHO IS THIS SCHEME FOR?Self help books can be used at any time,for example:¬ As a first step to helping resolvedifficulties that are a source of stress andunhappiness.¬ As a source of support for peopleexperiencing common emotional problemssuch as depression, eating disorders, panicattacks or low self-esteem.¬ While you are on a waiting list to see ahealth professional.¬ As an additional helping hand while youare working with a health professional.EXPLORING OTHER SOLUTIONSUsing self-help material to resolve difficultiescan be satisfying and empowering, butmaking changes in your life takes effort.
