Innovative clamp-onflowmeter technologyand new temperatureand pressuremonitoring devicesMore OptionsThrough targeted acquisitions and theadvancement of technologies andequipment, Siemens has been expanding itsoffer in the field of process instrumentationfor years. It now has one of the mostextensive lines of equipment for almost allmeasurement and monitoring tasks inprocess applications. The latest additions tothe portfolio: clamp-on ultrasonic flowinstruments as well as new temperature andpressure transmitters. The ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters havebeen an integral part of the Siemens portfoliofor flow measurement since the acquisitionof Controlotron. The devices complement theproduct line for this important noncontactmeasuring technique. The devices are usedprimarily in the oil and gas industry, forwater/wastewater, and for measuringthermal energy. The ultrasonic clamp-on devices measurethe flow rates of liquids or gases with highprecision using the nonintrusive ultrasonictechnology. Two sensors clamped onto theoutside of the pipe measure the flow withoutcontact. There is no need to open the pipelineor to interrupt the flow. The instruments canbe retrofitted and have no moving parts, sothey operate with very little wear. Otherbenefits include the absence of any pressureor energy loss, and a wide measuring range. The instruments are available as single, dual or multichannel versions, with digitaland analog data outputs, and in numerousdifferent housings. They are thereforesuitable for application in different ambientconditions and cover a wide range of processrequirements. The patented wide-beam technologyenables an exact bidirectional transit-timeflow measurement, regardless of the type ofliquid and temperature, and the instrumentis capable of operating even under conditionsof high particle content or high aeration. Thetransducers are resistant to aberrated flowContinues on Page 6UPCOMINGEVENT:1. In addition, the wide-beamtechnology can also be used to gain additionalinformation about the type and characteristicsof the medium, such as density.New instruments for measuring pressure andtemperatureInnovations and advanced technologies areopening up new application possibilities inthe classic areas of pressure and temperaturemeasuring. The small dimensions of the newSitrans TH devices mean that they areespecially easy to integrate in the sensorconnection head. Sitrans TH 300 cancommunicate via HART and has galvanicisolation for thermocouple applications. Inthe Sitrans TH 200 and Sitrans TH 100 standalonedevices, the user uses the Siprom Tsoftware tool for setup.Sitrans TH 300 has built-in characteristicsfor all common temperature sensors. Acustom characteristic curve of up to 30measuring points can also be specified forspecial applications with nonstandardsensors. Extensive test and diagnosticfunctions support the user with thecommissioning and operation of the sensors. The Sitrans P DSIII digital pressuretransmitter is the first Profibus PA device onthe market that is suitable for SIL 2 fail-safeapplications in accordance with IEC 61508 andIEC 61511. For this type of application, thestandard precision digital transmitter forpressure, absolute pressure, differentialpressure, flow and level has been extendedwith a Profisafe driver. This feature enables the fail-safetransmission of measured values via Profibusfor the first time with a pressure transmitter.Sitrans P DSIII is first set up as a regularProfibus PA device, before the Profisafe safetyfunctions are activated. Forexample, the Istanbul Municipality BusinessCompany (ISKI) recently placed an order withSiemens for process instrumentation valuedat a total of 550,000 euros. In addition toSiemens’ excellent reputation in Turkey, thefact that Siemens had clamp-on instrumentsin its portfolio was a decisive factor. ISKIsupplies both the European and Asian partsof Istanbul with drinking water. For the pastthree years, the company has been workingto bring its infrastructure up to state-of-theartstandards. Over the next five years, ISKIhas a potential demand of more than 500flowmeters per year.PLEASE CHECK + Plus the insert that i tookoutTypical area of application for clamp-onflowmeters: oil and gas pipelinesThe Sitrans P DSIII digital pressuretransmitter is the first Profibus PA device onthe market suitable for SIL 2 fail-safeapplications in accordance with IEC 61508/IEC61511Two ways to subscribe ....1.
