MA NIL A Groundbreaking rites held for UPM Archives-Museum IT HAS BEEN A LONGTIME DREAM FOR UP MANILA - TO BUILD AN ARCHIVE-MUSEUM THAT WILL SHOWCASE AND SERVE AS A COMPREHENSIVE LINK TO ITS PAST AND PAVE THE WAY FOR A BETTER APPRECIATION AND UNDERSTANDING OF ITS PRESENT AND CHARTING OF ITS FUTURE. Hopes are high that the goal will be realized the soonest time possible, especially in the light of the forthcoming centennial Sen. Edgardo Angara, Rep. Cynthia Villar, UP Pres. Ramon Arcadio lead the laying of the time capsule for the UP Manila Archive-Museum OVER THE TOP 7 UP Manila students ace dental board exam anew All fifteen UPM students passed the Dentistry Licensure Examination given by the Board of Dentistry in Manila last December 2006, seven of whom are in the top ten places. They are: 2nd Place: Jhomileen Calamasa de Vera (83.09%) 3rd Place: Eileen Pelayo Famatiga (81.75%) 5th Place: Ma. Renelle Cruzate Bihasa (81.34%) 7th Place: Gemmeritz Dionisio Paez (80.99%) 8th Place: Ma. Before 2006 ended, the first important step towards the fulfillment of the dream was taken with the holding of the groundbreaking of the UP Manila Archives-Museum last December 19, 2006 at the old College of Dentistry building along Padre Faura Street. The rites was highlighted by the laying of the time capsule. 3 new officials appointed THREE NEW OFFICIALS WERE ADDED TO THE EXISTING ROSTER OF UP MANILA FACULTY ADMINISTRATORS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF CHANCELLOR RAMON L. ARCADIO. They are Prof. Teresita C. Mendoza, Special Asst. to the Chancellor and director of the Information, Publication, and Public Affairs Office Prof. Susan Villegas, the new university registrar, and Dr. Irma Parajas, director of the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO). Both Mendoza and Villegas are faculty members of the College of Allied Medical Professions. Prof. Mendoza succeeds Dr. Serafin C. Edgardo Angara and Rep. Cynthia Villar, honorary chair and board member, respectively, of the Museum Executive Committee, and university officials l e d b y U P P r e s i d e n t General Hospital. Prof. Villegas takes the place of Dr. Reynaldo Imperial who was appointed dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Prof. Mendoza is a professor of occupational therapy and is former director of HRDO and of the Office of Student Affairs. She has served in various university and college committees. She is also the incumbent president of the Occupational Therapy Association of the Philippines. Prof. Villegas, also a professor of occupational therapy, is former dean of CAMP. She is the second CAMP faculty member to serve as UP Manila registrar, the first being Prof. Policarpia Magpili. Prof. Parajas, the most recent appointee, is former chair of the Dept. In a brief message delivered during the groundbreaking rites, Chancellor Ramon Arcadio stated that in initiating the establishment of a UP Manila Archives-Museum, his administration hopes to contribute to efforts to preserve artifacts and objects that will remind us of the past, present and future of UP Manila as the country's health sciences center. As envisioned by its planners, the UP Archives and Museum is also expected to serve as a catalyst to the present and future generations to enable them to take active roles in nation building and to the course of its living heritage. The museum will house the medical memorabilia collected over 100 years and will serve as exhibit area for artworks and historical pieces. It will include a conference center, a social hall, souvenir shops and a café. Profs. Mendoza and Villegas, along with CAS Dean Reynaldo Imperial and PGH Director Carmelo Alfiler, were sworn into office on January 2, 2007 by Chan. Arcadio. College of Dentistry Dean Elizabeth de Castro took her oath later that day.
