More on AFDWhat is AFD?AFD (Active Format Description) is a standard set of codes used by digital television broadcasters and embedded in the video stream to enable both4:3 & 16:9 television sets to optimally present pictures transmitted in either format.A coalition of broadcasters, lead by NBC Universal, has announced the “AFD Ready” initiative designed to seamlessly adjust High-Definition TV’sbroadcast of 16:9 ratio (wide-screen format) to the 4:3 ratio suitable for analog TV sets.In support of the “AFD Ready” initiative, our products, when applicable, are designedto meet the initiative’s specifications and carry the “AFD Ready” logo shown here. How does our product support AFD?AFD DISABLE: AFD codes will be ignored and not processed by the unit.AFD CENTER CUT: the unit will automatically detect any AFD code present in the broadcast stream and will adjust the TV screen accordingly. Ifthere is no AFD code present, it will default to the Center Cut format.AFD LETTER BOX: the unit will automatically detect any AFD code present in the broadcast stream and will adjust the TV screen accordingly. Ifthere is no AFD code present, it will default to the Letter Box format.FORCE CENTER CUT: the unit will force the TV screen to the Center Cut format, regardless of the AFD code being present or not present in thebroadcast stream.FORCE LETTER BOX: the unit will force the TV screen to the Letter Box format, regardless of the AFD code being present or not present in thebroadcast stream.Letter Box:The entire image isdisplayed on the TV screen, but fittedto the screen by applying “black” barsto the top and bottom of the screen.CENTER CUT:The image is expandedto fit the TV screen, but crops theimage on the right and left withoutdisplaying any “black” bars on thescreen.Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc.1.800.523.6049 www.blondertongue.comSlide # 6
