INTEGRATED ATCWORKING POSITION I-TWRi-TWR is a modern integrated airtraffic tower solution. It provides theair traffic controller with a completeworking position whera all systemscan be accessed from only one ortwo displays – a more effective andflexible working environment.GeneralControl towers tend to be cluttered with largenumbers of displays, controls and indicators. And the equipment is usually static so thecontrollers must adapt to the environment.i-TWR liberates valuable tower cabin spaceby integrating the various systems into justone or two displays, creating a better andmore flexible working environment for thecontroller.Enhanced situational awarenessi-TWR provides integration in the sensethat a number of functions can be managedwithin a single operating position where thenumbers of displays is kept to a minimum.Head-down time is shortened and situationalawareness is improved.Standardized working positionEach working position is based on the samephysical setup regarding furniture, displaysand computer hardware. However, the functionalityincluded in each working positioncan be configured to comply with the specificdemands of the individual controller roles asdefined by the airport and the needs of eachoperator.Flexible and cost-reducingi-TWR emphasizes on flexible integration ofdifferent systems into shared displays, adaptableand standardized controller workingpositions, standardized interface for communicationwith external equipment. The system is delivered with an initial setup, but can be easily modified by administrativepersonell to adapt to changing needs.Because of the standardized set of hardware,i-TWR will help reducing maintenance costs.Future proofAn important aspect of i-TWR is that it hasto interface a large amount of externalequipment, both existing as well as futureinstallations. i-TWR has an open interfacecalled STI (Standard Tower Interface) whichallows it to communicate with the varioustypes of equipment present at an airport.Equipment connected to i-TWR with STI iscontrolled and monitored using the standardHMI components provided by i-TWR. Thisensures integration with the rest of thesystem. STI can be implemented either bythe equipment provider or be provided as anadditional converter. The converter is thenresponsible for the translation between STIand the custom interface for the equipment.
