Fellow Nomads,The Captain’s TaleMay2012So who says the wind doesn't blow in Port Elizabeth??? We hadpretty much a 53km/h wind speed with gusts over 60km/h and thescore pretty much showed that. To all our divisional winners whomastered the conditions, well done!My prediction of collecting in my private game at my home club with the homeclub Captain as my partner did not come to fruition – Past captains, DavePearson and Duke Nel did just enough to take a whole R10.00 from myself andMike Lourens but I still feel an audit of the day would prove we were the victors...maybe not!The “Hill” was in wonderful condition, the fairways smooth and the greens fast –well done to the Port Elizabeth Golf Club on a fine achievement! The PEGC also hosted the Volvo World Golf Challenge. Alan Harper, from Volvo, did his usual wonders in getting his marketing equipment and wonderful give-awaysto us on time. Again, thanks you Volvo for your generous support!!Mr “All In”, William Rijs won the day and will be representing Eastern CapeNomads at Sun City in December – well done William and good luck for theRegional Final.I had the pleasure of inducting 6 new members on Sunday night. Thank you to allwho have been bringing guests to try out Nomads – the gift sponsored by MarikaEls of the “Biocinetic Wellness Centre” has certainly paid dividends – I urge youall to continue in your efforts to grow our Brand! For those that read last months magazine, I laid down the gauntlet and said,“but revenge will be ours at the Frontier Trophy on the 15th April, watch this space!!!”Well, Eastern Cape tookBOTH trophies, the ‘social’Rough Rider Trophy on theSaturday and the moreimportant Frontier Trophyon the Sunday! A big welldone to the team and thosewho supported us!!The trophy is back on ourtable for another year!

The Captain’s Tale May 2012 (Cont.)I look forward to seeing many of you at our special game at Shark River on the 3rdJune. Shark River have been very generous with their green fees and haveincluded a braai in the entry fee ofR120.00 – they will also donateR20.00 of that to our AMT fund –please support this special daywith us.Our mid year game at St. FrancisBay Golf Club is on the 24th June.I hope to see a good field there –the course is always in wonderfulcondition and if you haven'tmanaged to play there for a while,do yourself a favour and join us forthe day!Yours in Nomads,Ian Gooden

Kens Korner - May 2012thThe morning of the 20 May burst forth with amagnificence that promised another wonderful day ofbraaivleis, sunny skies and …... At daybreak the sun'swarming rays slowly diminished the crispy chill of lastnight's cleansing rain and the weatherman forecast another magnificentday. Regretably, however, I wouldn't be able to enjoy the fairest Cape sooff to the airport we trekked for the flight back home. What a welcome to PE. The wind was gusting at unheard of knots, theplane leap-frogged on its approach and you could almost taste the audiblesigh of relief as the nose wheel finally touched down and the reversethrust brought sanity to the landing. Great to be back!!I believe that conditions on the course weren't much better with ablustery, cold wind-blown day bringing out all sorts of protective clothing. It looks like we're in for a long, cold winter and maybe it's a good idea topack our Nomads windbreakers, windcheaters, jerseys, etc. into our golfbag before the next game; it certainly beats getting fined for dressviolations. Thanks to all of you who sponsored and/or played in the Volvo World GolfthChallenge at PE Golf Club on the 10 May. Besides raising a sizeableamount of money for the Furtherance of Golf/Junior Golf, feedbackindicates that everyone had a magnificent day. Congratulations to WilliamRijs as the overall Nomad winner. William will be representing EC Nomadsin the national playoff at the Lost City in December. The annual Nomads Charity Race Day is just around the corner and thisthyear's event takes place at Arlington Race Course on Friday 8 June 2012.We're looking for table sponsors at the moment and out of courtesy tolast year's sponsors we're offering them first option. Tables are limitedand if you feel in anyway inclined to book a table, please contact me or anymember of the AMT Committee to see how we can assist. Each table

Kens Korner - May 2012 (Cont.)booked comes complete with its own race named after your company.rdThe Andrew Mentis golf day takes place at PE Golf Club on Thursday 23August and we're looking for your support in making this a day toremember. We have secured an overall sponsor for the day and are lookingto raise funds for our beneficiaries through the “sale” of tee's, greens, putting green, verandah, bar, driving range, locker room, etc. Thisrepresents a magnificent opportunity for you to showcase your company, socontact any of the AMT committee to see how we can best accommodateyour needs. We trialled the “Heads and Tails” at the Volvo day and it proved to be anenjoyable success, so we've introduced it at the monthly games as a meansof getting everyone involved in the camaraderie and enthusiasm of prizegiving. Thanks to Ian O'Connor for his sponsorship of the prize for the“Last Man Standing”.There are a couple of other activities which are in the planning stages andI'll keep you all informed of what's happening as events unfold. Thanks foryour support thus far and I look forward to it continuing into the future. My personal thanks to the AMT committee members who selfishly give oftheir own time and resources to organise and execute the various eventsdesigned to raise funds for those less fortunate than ourselves. ThanksBambi, Ian G, Ian O, Jason, Kobus,Michael, Mitch, Peter, Pumba andStuart for your dedication andhard work; you guys are awesome!!Until next timeYours in golfKenBuddingtrade 87 (Pty) LtdBMW DealerMINI DealerBMW Motorrad DealerPostal addressP.O. 777 Checking in - May 2012Fellow Nomads,After a fairly long break between monthly games, we wereblessed with a cold, windy day at Port Elizabeth Golf Club on20 May. The course was set up beautifully and again proved tobe a true test of golf and the elements. I thank the CourseStaff at PE Golf Club for their efforts in providing a wonderfulcourse for us to enjoy and would like to congratulate them on the work that istaking place on the course, improving the experience into the future. That Deckis going to provide a lot of fun during the warmer months and is going to be agreat launch-pad for the Castle-Lite Experience after the game.I was honoured to play with the National Junior Vice Chairman, our very ownGreg Clack, who showed me that he is not only superb at administration, he canreally smash that ball and helped me take a little “full-house” from my GaryPlayer Knockout partner, Dennis Jones and good friend Kerry Bosch. We had agreat day out there together with the victory coming by the smallest of marginswhich was soon forgotten after several helpings of the sponsors delights, a fewCastle-Lites followed by a few Bells Extra Special's to finish off a great day. Thanks again to my fourball for a most enjoyable day.An interesting scenario played itself out for the top spot in the A division withthree players on the same score. Nomads have a very clear procedure forcount-outs in monthly games which I would like to share with those who do notknow:- The first count-out is on handicap, the lower handicap wins, which countedout one of the three players on Sunday;- The second count-out is the total medal stableford points scored on the oddholes on the card, the winner being the one with the most points. This didnot separate our two remaining players;- This meant that the third count-out had to be applied which is the totalmedal stableford points scored on all the par 3 holes on the course. Thisthird stage did separate the top two contenders in this instance;- Should the players still have been level, the fourth count-out rule is the tossof a coin to determine the winner.I hope that this bit of information may clear up any doubt that you may have hadon this subject. Was it not great to see six new nomads being inducted, five players andShaakira who joined the ladies at the tables. We would like to continue

777 Checking in - May 2012 (Cont.)increasing players so please fellow Nomads, invite your guests and friends toour monthly games. We are sorry to see our friend Martin Lea departing ourshores for Australia, we wish him and his lovely family everything of the best intheir new adventure and remind him that we will always be here for when hevisits us in future. The Fines Session was well run by Trevor Kennelly who hasbeen waiting for months to have his moment in the sun to get his own back onprevious fines-masters!Congratulations must go to our team who represented us at the recent RoughRyder and Frontier Trophy's, with the Eastern Cape Nomads beating the currentBert Hunt trophy winners, Border, in both competitions. Those who attendedprize-giving on Sunday would have seen the Frontier Trophy proudly displayedin front of the altar. Well done to the team who had a wonderful weekend awayand we look forward to the next trip, that to the Seaboard Trophy in Mossel Bayfrom 11 to 12 August 2012. Please make an effort to play in this greatcompetition between our hosts Southern Cape, Boland, Western Province,Border and ourselves. The course that the competition will be played on isPinnacle Point on Saturday and this will be followed by the Southern CapeMonthly game on the Sunday at Mossel Bay Golf Club. The entries have beensent out so please get your entry back to myself and Jeanne asap to avoiddisappointment as we only have 26 spots for the Pinnacle Point game and thelist is filling up rapidly. Again I encourage new Nomads to try to make this tripwhich will whet your appetite to qualify for the National tournaments in future. This tournament is a “Mini National Tournament”, with five of the twelveprovinces taking part and affords you the opportunity of meeting fellow Nomadsfrom neighbouring provinces, where lasting friendships will be made! Besidesthis, come along for bags of fun. Please let us know if you have any suggestions that can improve ourexperiences at the monthly games. We look forward to seeing you all atSt Francis Bay Golf Club on 14June 2012.StuartBuying or SellingHighest Prices Paid for Clean CarsGeorge & Steve Saffy730 Govan Mbeki Ave.North EndPort Elizabeth6056Tel: (041) 487-2556(041) 487-2545Fax: (041) 487-0492
