IN THE BEGINNING
In 1997, Coach Bobby Hosea was no different from any other parent, while
coaching his sons first tackle football team, he was worried his son and
teammates might suffer a serious head injury tackling incorrectly.
As a result of that concern, Coach Bobby Hosea invented the Dip-N-Rip-
Sticks WORDS TO PLAY BY 12-Step Tackle Training System to teach his
young football players how to keep their head out of the tackle and avoid
brain, neck or spinal cord injury.
Coach Bobby Hosea is known as The World s Foremost Authority on injury
preventive tackle training. His one of a kind tackle training system teaches
players how to identify and avoid the physical mechanisms that lead to
headfirst impact when attempting to tackle a ball carrier.
Statistically, 75 percent of our youth football players will not go on to play at
the high school level. The game of football inspires passion, confidence and
discipline in our children. These are all qualities that are extremely valuable
in their development, but improper training puts them all at risk of
avoidable injury, and the price paid by our children and parents is much too
high.
For over a decade, Coach Bobby s revolutionary approach towards tackle
training has measurably lowered the incidence of headfirst collisions on
every level of football competition.

Bobby Hosea...no stranger to the game!

THE COMMITMENT
Train Em up Academy was created to dedicate its focus
to developing safer training and practices for
the American game of Football.
In 2006, Coach Bobby Hosea founded
Train Em Up Academy, Inc., a 501 (C) 3 Not-for-Profit Corporation
throughout the country.
Our Mission at Train Em Up Academy, Inc. is to
ENLIGHTEN football players and EDUCATE them on how to
recognize and prevent unsafe tackling that leads
directly to headfirst impact, the primary cause of
catastrophic brain, neck and spinal cord injuries.
Our purpose is to educate and train Tackle Football Players
of all ages, Parents, Coaches, Trainers, Game Officials,
Athletic Administrators and all essential football personnel,
on how to readily identify and avoid the physical mechanisms
that lead directly to helmet first collisions during live football competition.
We EMPOWER players through our youth and
adult safety training programs and offer the scientific research
and development to create better training methods, systems,
and equipment to insure a safer game of American Tackle Football.
Our goal is to reduce catastrophic injuries such as concussions,
and other brain and spine injury's that result from head first impacts
and save the health and lives of our youth and Professional Players and as a result
Save the Game.

Teaching Young Players a Safer Way to Tackle
Kevin Terrell for The New York Times
Coach Bobby Hosea, a consultant for a youth football governing body, calls his program HITTS, which stands for High Intensity Training Tackling System.
By ALAN SCHWARZ
Published: December 25, 2010
CARSON, Calif. — They walked through dawn’s thick fog to the
practice turf — two dozen boys as old as 17 and as young as 9, giving
up a Saturday morning to the coach in the Panama hat.
“Dip ’n’ rip, baby! Dip ’n’ rip!” the
coach said as players ducked under
five-foot limbo sticks and exploded out
the other side.
“Head up! No! Head up!”
“Not chest up, chest out! Yeah!”
Bobby Hosea, a 55-year-old former
defensive back and longtime actor, has a singular
passion: teaching young football players how to protect
their heads while tackling. He has watched too many end up
in wheelchairs, even coffins. He sees N.F.L. defenders
recklessly diving helmet-first and claiming it is too late to
change. He hears youth coaches exhorting tacklers to “lay a
hat on him,” a maneuver so neck-crushingly dangerous it
could well be called Rushing Roulette.
So Hosea runs camps that focus on one skill — tackling with
your head up instead of down, and away from contact —
and gives individual instruction to players in and around
Los Angeles. As football careens through its dark cloud of
head injuries, Hosea sees himself as saving more than the
players’ ability to walk and think. He sees it as saving the
sport, one youngster at a time.
Dear Coach Hosea,
Murrieta Valley Pop Warner
As you may know I am currently a Firefighter/Police Officer with the City of LA.
Over the past 25 years I have worked on many football head and neck injuries
due to poor tackling. Now that I am the VP of Football for Murrieta Valley Pop
Warner and Assistant Coach at Murrieta Valley High school, it was my priority
to hire and train coaches that can teach the proper tackling fundamentals.
Earlier this year I looked into your Dip-n-Rip tackling program and philosophy
and decided that this training is what we needed for our youth football program
in Murrieta. This past season I made it mandatory for all of my coaching staff,
(85 Head and Assistants ) to complete your program and teach better tackling
techniques. As a result, our Murrieta Valley Pop Warner organization had no
head or spinal injuries and is considered one of the hardest hitting, best tackling
programs in Palomar Conference. Furthermore, I brought your tackling concepts
to the high school level with the same success.
In conclusion, the results speak for themselves. Thank you for introducing better
and safer tackling methods to our community youth football programs!
I wish you continued success.
Sincerely,
Cliff Duckett
VP of Football (2007, 2008 & 2009)
Re: Recommendation for Bobby Hosea
Train Em Up Academy/ Dip-N-Rip Tackle Training Systems
To Whom It May Concern:
The father of a fellow youth athlete introduced me to Bobby Hosea camps. After
visiti website, I knew that at the very least, exposure to the concept of
awareness of how t hit would be beneficial for my son Michael. Little did I know
exactly how much both my son and I would learn from Bobby.
My family has been involved with football for many years, my husband, brothers-in-law
were all players and coaches, and all three of my sons have been active in football.
Additionally, my youngest is involved in a number of different sports and has attended
many different types of camps. From these past experiences, I can say one thing with
absolute certainty I have never met anyone more committed to protecting players than
Bobby Hosea. My son, already a strong player and good athlete, elevated his game, his
confidence and his hitting ability while learning how to protect himself.
My company, Radnet Management, Inc., is the largest network of diagnostic imaging
facilities in the United States. We see, with unfortunate regularity the impact of brain
injury in our offices all too often and are aware, sadly, that these injuries are often
entirely preventable.
Not only is kinesthetic principles sound, his method does not detract from the
violence and aggression that football demands. Rather, he relentlessly educates players
and parents into understanding that there is a correct, safer and still highly productive
manner to tackle. Bobby does not mince words, does not sugarcoat the risks, and
demands an exacting correctness from his camp participants with the goal at every drill
being at the forefront of his objective to learn how to hit hard, but to keep the head and
neck as safe from injury as possible, and recognize injury when it occurs.
passionate commitment to players is amazing to watch. I have attended every
camp that my son has participated in and is moved each and every time I watch him with
a player that is new or struggling with concepts. He is encouraging and demanding, and
works with each player individually until they have the principles he teaches mastered. I
have watched so many coaches over the years let weaker, less skilled players just pass
through to the next drill either afraid of the time that it will take to teach them, or
because the have the patience or fortitude to do what is right by the youngster.
Bobby does not quit on his kids and his method and patience win out with success every
single time.
Bobby is a man driven by his commitment to what he has seen occur on the football field.
It is clear that he loves football but he loves our players more. As I watch pop warner,
high school, college and professional football I hear talk and hope that the tide may be
turning to what Bobby has been preaching for sometime, but it is not turning fast enough.
Men and boys, afraid of ridicule that they are weak, that will be pulled from a game, that
they were tough e are sacrificing themselves every day. Coaches in their
arrogance refuse to learn new techniques, are uneducated and are willing to sacrifice
injured players for a win. I am as competitive a person as you could possibly find and
will even agree that there are some hurts that you play through but brain injury is
another story altogether. Period. The impact and the consequences, whether immediate or
cumulative, of brain injury that occurs on the field is far too staggering to continue to
ignore when it can be largely be prevented through education by players and coaches off
the field.
There is no reason for our sons to sacrifice hard hitting, ripping tackles but it CAN be
done in a manner that minimizes the potential of injury. Coaches, and safety
administrators from organizations of the youngest players to our most seasoned NFL
experts need to take a serious look at what Bobby Hosea is teaching. What he has created
is straightforward and amazing and I am deeply grateful that a man of such conviction
continues to drive his message to the football community.
