This lunette of theMadonna and Child, accompanied by twovivid, winged angels, is thought to havebeen part of a multi-paneled polyptych inthe church of Sant’Eufemia, where it nowsurmounts the only other remaining panel,depicting Saint Roch. Both paintings wereCaricature drawings by theeighteenth-century artist AntonMaria Zanetti were recentlystudied and catalogued at theGiorgio Cini Foundation inmemory of Save Venice Boardmember and esteemed art historianRoger Rearick (1930–2004). Save Venice’s treatment of the lunetteremoved heavy repainting of the extensivebackground losses that had been filled inwith an orange hue to resemble base-preparationfor the missing gold leaf. The areas oflost gold were instead retouched with a neutraltone to blend visually with the portionsof the background still intact.Fondazione Giorgio Cinicontaining 350 caricatures ofVenetian personalities, includingthe male soprano Farinelliand artists Sebastiano Ricci andRosalba Carriera. Inaddition to working with directors such as Robert Wilsonand Peter Sellars, he has taught at Harvard and Duke. Heis a graduate of Harvard’s ART Institute with degrees fromthe University of California and Northwestern. Manfredand his partner, Peter Iacono, who serves as President &Managing Director of ITV Worldwide, are honored to collaboratewith Save Venice.Mary Kathryn Navab, an ardent supporter of the arts, humanities,and diverse charitable organizations, shares with theBoard a passion for the preservation of this magical city. Agraduate of Southern Methodist University in advertisingand marketing, with a minor in business and art history,Mary Kathryn worked for twelve years as a Senior FirstV.P. for Solomon Smith Barney, and for another six yearsin the same position at Prudential Securities. She was theco-founder of the interior design store Norman Kincade inSouthampton. Mary Kathryn resides in Manhattan withher husband, Alex Navab, a senior partner at KKR, andtheir children, Julian and Arabella.Piemontese Truffle FeastOn November 29, 2007, friends of Save Venice gatheredat Barbetta Restaurant, owned by Board member LauraMaioglio Blobel, for a Piemontese truffle feast. Guests intruffle-hunt inspired attire watched a demonstration ofa truffle hunt by trifolau Sandrino Romanelli and retiredtruffle hounds Diana, Apollo, and Pluto.
