Towards better Sustainability rankings<br />

For Sodexo, each year improving its performance in socially responsible<br />

investment indexes is a major opportunity to strengthen its position as a<br />

sustainability leader in its market sector.<br />

Who are the rating agencies? What is their mission and why are their analyses so<br />

crucial for the market and companies?<br />

Rating agencies<br />

� Their mission is to evaluate<br />

companies’ social, societal,<br />

environmental performance and<br />

their corporate governance.<br />

� They act as a market intermediary<br />

between the extra-financial indexes<br />

and the investors who buy the<br />

ratings of the evaluated companies.<br />

The rating agencies that are known<br />

worldwide are:<br />

Methodologies<br />

Each agency develops its specific criteria<br />

of assessment:<br />

� Ethics and Human Rights,<br />

� Management of Human Resources,<br />

� The societal and social impact<br />

� The impact on the environment and<br />

measures taken to remedy this,<br />

� Corporate governance,<br />

� Relationships with clients,<br />

� Suppliers and subcontractors<br />

� And relations with all the<br />

stakeholders.<br />

Each criterion is evaluated according<br />

to 3 aspects:<br />

1. Strategy and company policies,<br />

2. Their implementation,<br />

WHAT IS SODEXO DOING<br />

TO MAINTAIN ITS RANKINGS?<br />

Each year, Sodexo’s Sustainable<br />

Development team responds to a dozen<br />

questionnaires, in coordination with all<br />

entities of the Group (HR, Supply Chain,<br />

Finance ...).<br />

In 2011, to answer over 100 questions<br />

asked by SAM, more than 20 people<br />

within the Group have been involved<br />

over a 2-month period.<br />

It is through our actions that each year,<br />

we can make our responses evolve.<br />

HOW IS POSITIONED SODEXO?<br />

� For the seventh time, named 2011-2012<br />

Global Sustainability Leader for its industry<br />

sector («Restaurants, Hotels, Bars and<br />

Recreational Services») by the DJSI.<br />

� SAM Sector Leader and Gold Class for the<br />

4 th year running.<br />

� Selected for inclusion in the 2011 SAM<br />

“Sustainability Yearbook”.<br />

� From 2005 to 2007, and again in 2009, named<br />

«DJSI Global Supersector Leader» («Travel<br />

and Leisure» category).<br />
