8. Cut four pieces of heavy thread.9. Dab a dot of glue to inside of fishmouth at north, south, east and west.One at a time until each is dry.10.Press threads to glue dots.11. Allow to dry and knot as shown.5. If you have a 1/16” hole punch, puncha hole in center. Otherwise, use whatyou can to make a hole that is widerthan a sewing pin’s shaft.6. Glue a seed bead to the center to addstrength and balance.12.Trim threads near knot and glue to flattoothpick for display purposes. If youwant to be kite-realistic, just make awrap of thread on a short piece oftoothpick.7. Pierce the large end of a flat woodtoothpick with a sewing pin. It isalright if the wood splits slightly.1. Rocking Humpty-Dumpty: Glueboth ‘lefts’ images to balsa wood andallow to dry thoroughly.2. Take a fresh bladed X-acto knife andcut the perimeter of each image.8. Next remove the pin and spear itthrough the pinwheel. Now you mayreinsert the pin into the toothpick allthe way to within about a 1/16”-1/8”from the pinwheel.3. NOT SHOWN: Cut out both ‘right’images and glue one each to thebackside of your wood images.4. Take the felt markers and color theexposed edges.5. The image here is for demonstrationpurposes only. Glue three penniestogether into a stack and allow to drythoroughly.6. Glue the halves together against thepennies. Note the position of thepenny stack in the photo above in #5.Humpty-Dumpty should look likethis.9. Here is a photo of another toy, but youwill see how to snip the pin up to thetoothpick with wire cutters and securewith a dab of glue. Do not let the glueseep to the back of the pinwheel or itwill not rotate when blown on!!1. Thaumatropes: These will spinbetween your index finger and thumb.the fish will look as though its in abowl and the mouse will look asthough it’s trapped in a cage. Optional:disks were cut with a ½” holepuncher.2. Cut out circles and glue to end ofround wood toothpick, blank sidestogether.3. Cut pointed end off of toothpick’sbottom end.4. Photo has the reverse sides’ artworksuperimposed on the picture.1. Wind Spinners/Pinwheels: Cutalong four dotted lines. Red stars willalways appear on inside of pinwheel.2. Place a dot of glue to center point.Hold first point with tweezers untildry.1. Phenakistoscopes: cut discs(optional: 1” hole puncher).3. Place a tiny dot of glue to top of firstpoint. Press second point to glue andhold with tweezers until dry.4. Repeat this step until all four pointsare glued.


2. Cut 1/16” hole in center of eachdisc. I removed the hole catcherplate from the puncher in order tosee the punching position.3. Glue blank sides together. This willmake two, two-sided wheels.5. Thread a sewing pin through thecenter hole.6. Press pin through large end of flatwood toothpick.4. Glue a seed bead to the center ofeach wheel for strength andbalance.7. Snip the pin up to the toothpick withwire cutters and secure with a dab ofglue.
