<strong>June</strong>e <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>News from English and HistoryThe three new teachers who have joined ourdepartment have blended in well. The talents of MissHyland and Miss Kingwell are being put to use in theupcoming production ‘This Isn’t Kansas’. In theproduction the talents of the Glee Club (choir),musicians and budding actors will be showcased. Theevening performance is Tuesday 11 <strong>June</strong> at 7:00pm.Tickets can be purchased from the frontoffice. Adults $5.00 and Students $3.00.Miss Kingwell has students from Years 7 to 10 involvedin the Premier‟s Debating Challenge and after asuccessful first round win we wish them well in theirnext round against Cootamundra and Murrumburrah<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>s.Miss Lamotte has taken room 7 and made it her ownwith the walls endorsing specialist English words alongwith a ‘What I have learnt’ board. Miss Lamotte‟scomputer skills in the use of blogging are not onlyused within the classroom but the school as a whole.Mrs Evans has been asked to give a presentation at theRiverina Learning Conference this week. Herpresentation will be on secondary strategies toencourage students in their reading and to developlifelong learning.In consultation with staff Miss Littlejohn has taken agroup of students to the local Library to listen to avisiting author to explain the research process she didin order to write her book about the mother of NedKelly. Miss Kingwell‟s Year 8 English classes have beenvisiting the local library as part of the Book BorrowingExtravaganza Program.The mural stairwell project is in the design stageassisted by Ms Glasgow and a group of Year 8 and 9students.Ms Mackay has her Year 7 LOTE classes speakingvarious words and numbers in German and learningnot only another language but aspects of their culturetoo. <strong>No</strong>t only are these people progressing, assessingand reporting on students, they are involved in extracurricularactivities as well to give them as manyopportunities to develop lifelong learning skills.Mrs Anne HigginsonHead Teacher English/HistoryParents Transporting Students forExcursionsYou may have noticed that when your child bringshome a permission note, which involves privatetransport to be provided by parents, that we requestthat original driver‟s licence and registration papers aresighted at school and a copy kept. This is aDepartment of Education and Communitiesrequirement, which protects both you, as a volunteerdriver and the children travelling with you.The following excerpt comes from this policy:9.3.1 The transporting of students in the cars of staffmembers, parents, caregivers, volunteers and otherstudents should only occur in those circumstanceswhere there is no feasible option available to providealternative transportation. This may only occur underthe following conditions:a) Written permission from the parent(s) orcaregiver(s) of the students(s) being transported isobtainedb) The driver is licensed and, if issued with aprovisional licence, complies with any relevant peerpassenger conditionsc) The vehicle is registeredd) The number of passengers in the vehicle doesnot exceed the number of seatbeltse) Current driver‟s licence and car registrationdetails are sighted by the school prior to givingpermission for students to be transported in thevehicle.Please note: Once you have brought your originaldocuments to school and a copy has been made, yourpaperwork is then current for all further excursionsuntil the expiry dates on your licence or registrationare reached.Mrs Kelly Richards<strong>School</strong> Admin ManagerPage 4
