Simon WheatleySimon Wheatley was born 1970 in Singapore, where he spent his childhood.Moving to England as a teenager, he graduated from ManchesterUniversity in 1993 with a degree in American and Latin American Studies.It was in Budapest, while working as an English teacher, that hebegan to take photography seriously, intrigued by the social confusionresult-ing from the transition from communism to capitalism. In recentyears his work has focused on marginalized urban areas, and he is currentlycompleting a book about the inner-city youth in London. Hebecame a nominee member of Magnum Photos in June 2005.
