SUBROVSUBMARINE ROV

SUBROV >SYSTEM OVERWIEV AND FUNCTIONSSYSTEM OVERVIEWThe SUBROV system is an ROV systemcontrolled and operated from a submarine. The system comprises an ROV, a winchincluding a tether management system andan operator console.Aboard the submarine the system is handledlike a heavy weight torpedo using the samehandling equipment as a torpedo. It islaunched and retrieved from a 21” torpedotube.Integration of the system is straightforward. The torpedo A-Cable is used for communicationand power supply, the torpedo lockingdevices are used to lock the SUBROV in thetube, a standalone operator console is usedinside the submarine to operate the system. No modification of the submarine is necessaryat this level of integration.FUNCTIONThe vehicle is battery powered enablingthe use of a long thin fibre optical tether forvehicle control and sensor data telemetry. The vehicle is operated by a pilot from anoperator console inside the submarine that isused for controlling the ROV and displayingvideo and sonar images to the operator.A winch, placed inside the torpedo tube, handles the tether during operations. Thismaintains tether length and tension in orderto keep the tether safe during operation andstowage. An external battery charger is usedto charge the battery inside the submarine. The SUBROV system utilizes a modular designto facilitate ease of fault tracing, removal, repair and replacement of components.APPLICATIONSThe vehicle has a 6 DOF control system thatmakes it a highly manoeuvrable, stable andversatile vehicle that can be configured for amultitude of tasks such as:• Inspection/Intervention• Communication/Surveillance• MCM• AUV recovery

SUBROV > APPLICATIONSCOMMUNICATION/SURVEILLANCEThe system can be used to carry an antenna module that can bebrought to the surface to establish radio communications. It can alsobe used to dock and connect to underwater communication nodes. This feature enables the Submarine to carry out covert operationswithout revealing its position.AUV RECOVERYThe ROV can be equipped with an AUV gripping tool enabling it todock with an incoming AUV. The ROV can then move the AUV intoa torpedo tube for recovery.INSPECTION/INTERVENTIONThe system can be used to examine both the submarine itself andthe area surrounding the submarine. In addition to colour and lowlight cameras, the ROV is equipped with sonar to help navigationand to relocate objects. The SUBROV takes over the hazardous task of the divers. Lightworks and inspection can now be made safely.MINE COUNTER MEASURESOPTIONSThe SUBROV system can be equipped with a number of options, for example.• Manipulator arm• Cutting tool• USBL responder• INS• Sonars and camerasThe ROV can be equipped with tools to perform various tasks suchas cutting wires and retrieving or moving objects with a manipulator. The SUBROV uses its sonar and cameras for the detection of seamines.
