Molly TessmerNinth gradeClass OfficerWhy have you chosen to run for a position in Marian HighSchool’s student government?I have chosen to run for a position in Marian High School’s student government because not only do Ilove Marian, but I love to show my spirit and be active in the Marian community. I think that being aclass officer will be a great opportunity for me to lead my freshman class in being the best girls we canbe. I have attended many Marian functions in the past eight years because my sisters both went to Marianand I have seen many positive examples of Marian leaders. As a class officer, I will help my class to usetheir talents and faith to make the Marian community a better place, thus leaving their mark on the world. What is your personal definition of a leader?I believe a leader is someone who believes in themselves and shows others the right way to live byexample. A leader is not afraid to take chances despite what others may say. A leader is one who willrepresent her people in a respectful, responsible manner, in a way that will best benefit them. What special skills or talents will you bring to student government? How will these traits enrich theenvironment of Marian High School? Some skills and talents that I would bring to student government are organization, humor, dedication, andcompassion. I feel organization is important to keep focus and work towards a goal. I was able to utilizethis skill as secretary on student government in junior high. I feel humor is important to lighten the moodand assist in conflict resolution. Being able to laugh at yourself makes you more approachable to others.Dedication is important in all tasks. In being dedicated, you are sure to complete all goals no matter howdifficult. Compassion is important to go out of your way to include the interests of everyone and be opento others ideas and feelings. What innovative ideas or goals do you have for Marian High School? What plan of action wouldyou take to see your goal achieved? We should promote what kind of women Marian High Schoolcreates. Marian produces college-prepared lifelong learners andleaders that utilize their talents and faith by making the world abetter place. We can take action and achieve this goal by beingmore visible in our Omaha community. The recruitment team doesa great job of promoting Marian, but I would like to see students inall grades speaking out about the awesome atmosphere andbenefits of Marian High School. What activities have you been involved in at Marian that willassist you in being a strong and able leader in studentgovernment?

I have joined the following: I joined Polar Plunge because I believe it is a great cause to raise money forthe Special Olympics. To raise money for others in need is a great way to lead others by example. I joinedthe Spanish club so that I can learn another culture and new experiences. Learning other cultures helps usto be more understanding of other people and to learn more about ourselves. I joined Harry Potter club sothat I can meet new friends and classmates who have the same passion as me for a book. Harry Potterclub seems to gather a large variety of different girls that I may have never met. I was also given theopportunity to volunteer at Children’s Hospital through Marian. I have applied for this because I want tohelp those in need. Next, I am looking forward to trying out for basketball. I played for Marian thissummer and I am excited to be apart of a team, so we can set goals and achieve them together as a team.Lastly, I am a service-learning leader because this is a great way I can serve in my community but alsohave fun. We are all called to serve others and it is in serving others that we really serve God. I amlooking forward to doing all of these things for the next four years of my life at Marian!
