Reaching Out to OurDiverseCommunityThe provision of information and servicesto over 230,000 peoplethroughout our 1,157 square miles ispackaged in many formats. Technologyadvances, communicationimprovements, and proactive policydecisions have paved ways for Countyservices to reach all of our citizens.E911, telecommunications and cabletelevision programs enable communicationamong all public safety agenciesand the public, thus providing criticalservices to all citizens and visitors.Over 300 E911 calls are dispatched ona daily basis. A proposal to upgradethe system’s hardware is currently underwayand will provide the basis forgeographically locating wireless E911calls for emergency service. EnvironmentalServices has also installedstate-of-the-art technology to maintaina publicly accessible interactive databasethat identifies many aspects of ourwater basin, monitors water quality, andtracks water issues.Light Up Lake - Administration BuildingThe merger of the Lake County LibrarySystem with the Leesburg Public LibrarySystem provides citizens fullresource sharing capabilities includinga combined library catalog, books-bymailservice, and inter-library loans.The boundaries of our accessible resourcesnow include a seven-countyregion. The LakeCounty Library System currently holds471,114 items and logged 793,000 visitslast year.As development and citizenry expand,Lake County continues to initiate programsto accommodate growth. Weare working with all fourteen LakeCounty municipalities on the creationof joint planning agreements. Thesepartnerships will lay the groundwork tobetter plan for growth as well as to providefor a logical transition betweencounty and city regulations.In the midst of commercial and residentialdevelopment, we remain attuned tosafeguarding our natural and rural environments.Committees and studiesare actively exploring methods of protectingenvironmentally sensitive landsand maintaining the health of the Wekivaspringshead. The creation of apermanent committee dedicated toenvironmental land acquisition hasbeen approved.
