PJ55x13.5B IE 13.5-740mm 1:2.0ULTRA TELEPHOTOZOOM LENSACHIEVING 1480mmThe "TELE Super 55" which features the incredible focal length of 740mm at the tele-end and 1,480mm with 2.0x extender, isperfect for sports and other live events.The new and improved "TELE Super 55" can include Canon's optional "Crossover System"which accommodates for the loss of wide angle in the 4:3 mode in some of the dual aspect ratio switchable camera systems.The redesigned circuitry of the "TELE Super 55" realizes improvements in RF noise protection and its improved mechanical designoffers a modern look with easy accessibility for user friendly maintenance.HIGH MTF PERFORMANCEThe next generation of 16:9 format hasbecome more widespread world-wide.The height of the 16:9 format is 20%shorter than that of the current 4:3format, thus the scanning lines are 20%greater(Fig.1). As a result, higherresolution is required for the 16:9format. In order to achieve this, theTELE SUPER55 provides theoptimum balance of aberrations by Hi-UD glasses (High Index Ultra LowDispersion glass) and Canon's uniquefluorite. The TELE SUPER55 succeedsin having the higher MTFperformance, correspondent to 6MHz,necessary for the 16:9 format.CANON "CROSSOVER" SYSTEMAll the Super series of lenses, includingthe new TELE SUPER 55 are nowoptionally available with"CROSSOVER" compatibility. The 4position extender turret incorporates a0.8x "CROSSOVER" unit in additionto the normal extenders i.e. 1.0x, 1.5x,or 2.0x (Fig.2). When the CCDswitches to the 4:3 mode, the extenderturret rotates to the 0.8x position. The0.8x "CROSSOVER" unit reduces thediameter from 11mm to 9mm thusshortening the focal length to producean identical picture angle. In essence,the 0.8x "CROSSOVER" unit acts as a1.0x extender for the switched 4:3aspect ratio.
