In 2011 the agricultural production in Lombardy increased by 8.1% if compared to 2010AGRO-FOOD INDUSTRY IN LOMBARDY: EXCELLENCE TO BE EXPORTEDThe “Lombardia Food and Wine 2012" project has been presented: it aims at promoting Lombardy’s agro-foodcompanies worldwide.Milan, 13th June 2012 – For the presentation of “Lombardia Food and Wine 2012” project for the promotionof Lombardy’s agro-food products on foreign markets, Regione Lombardia - Direzione Agricoltura andUnioncamere Lombardia, in cooperation with Promos and Fiera Milano, has held today in Milan, at RegioneLombardia office, the workshop entitled “Business opportunities for agro-food companies andprofessional hospitality”.The event hosted, among the others, Giulio De Capitani, Councilor for Agriculture at Regione Lombardia,Rosangela Morana, Vice-Director D.G Agriculture at Regione Lombaria, and Renato Montalbetti, Manager atArea Imprese Unioncamere Lombardia. It was also a meeting and exchange moment for one of the drivingsectors of Lombardy’s economy. The workshop also offered the occasion to present all initiatives aiming atpromoting Lombardy’s food & hospitality industry at an international level, as well as the businessopportunities currently offered by some of the most strategic foreign markets.In particular, the "Lombardia Food & Wine 2012" project aims at helping and supporting Lombardy’s agrofoodcompanies in Russia (Moscow), Brazil (Sao Paolo), China (Shanghai and Guangzhou), and the U.S.A.(Washington). The first step of the project implies the participation at Summer Fancy Food in Washington,from June 17 th through 19 th .“The2012 promotion program has widened – said Giulio De Capitani, Regional Councilor for Agriculture -.Internationals missions are directed towards economically emerging countries. Their extent is directlyproportional to the export potential and, given the stagnant internal consumptions, they represent adevelopment opportunity for the business of our agricultural holdings”.The project is organized by Direzione Generale Agricoltura di Regione Lombardia, Unioncamere Lombardiaand Sistema camerale lombardo, with the support of Promos, and can be accessed by Lombardy’s companiesproducing: wine, cheese and salami, rice and pasta, fine foods, functional foods, and biological products.“In 2012 this project, which Lombardy’s Chambers of Commerce and Regione Lombardia have beendeveloping for several years, – said Francesco Bettoni, President at Unioncamere Lombardia – opens up tosome of the most interesting countries as for industry export growth. Supporting the internationalization ofone of the excellent industries in Lombardy’s economy is an absolute priority, mostly today, wheninternationally oriented companies represent a fundamental drive to support an economy in trouble”.The project boasts many goals: promoting the entry of other Lombardy companies on reference markets,supporting them also during certification and distribution operations; strengthening the presence of thecompanies which already operate in such countries by increasing their visibility and enhancing their image toimpress local consumers; promoting quality and tradition of Lombardy’s agro-food products amonginternational audiences.“Lombardia Food and Wine 2012 – said Enrico Pazzali, CEO at Fiera Milano - perfectly matches ourinternationalization strategy supporting Made-in-Italy products.
