ADI 2016 / 2018 / 2019Automatic and dependable On-line Ion AnalysisThe single method Process Analyzers ofMetrohm Applikon B.V. can be applied inmany different industries to analyze andcontrol their wet chemical processes. The single method analyzers areavailable for:TitrationsADI 2016 TitrolyzerIon Selective measurementsADI 2018 Ion-AnalyzerColorimetric analysisADI 2019 Process Colorimeter• Many proven applications in the analysis of wet chemicalprocesses are available for (petro)chemical-, mining-, semiconductor-,pulp-, paper-, textile-, food- and many otherindustries for process as well as effluent streams.• A flexible wet part containing modules like valves, samplingdevices, pumps, sensors etc. and the flexibility in setting upprogram runs, measuring ranges and result calculation allowa configuration for almost every application.• Easy operation by use of programmable macro’s withdialog functions.• Combination of corrosion resistant plastic and epoxycoated steel, or fully stainless steel cabinets.• Electronics fully shielded from the so-called wetpart.• Ingress protection according to IP65 and NEMA 4X.• Smart design of hard- and software and application ofspecial analytical methods allows automatic calibrationand validation of the results.• Batch-wise operation allows the analysis frequency to bedefined, which leads to a significant reduction in reagent usage.• A flexible design makes it possible to automate yourlaboratory method ensuring that the analyzer generatesthe same result as your laboratory.AutomationThe analyzers can run three different programs which canconveniently be adapted to the specific needs of the application.• A Clean program for periodic cleaning of sampling device, analysis vessel or cuvette and sample lines.• A Reference or calibration program for periodicallyperforming a reference analysis on a standard. A titrantor electrode offset can automatically be adjusted.• An Analysis program for on-line sample analysis. The programs are executed in a user definable sequencewith a user selectable time interval. Conditional actionsbased on the result outcome are available to trigger alarms,increase/decrease analysis frequency, and perform Cleaningand Reference programs.

Metrohm Applikon / Single Method On-line AnalyzersADI 2016TitrolyzerAnalysis techniquesThe ADI 2016 Titrolyzer performs potentiometric titrations bymeans of a high precision burette system and high-performanceelectrodes:• Acid/Base titrations• Redox titrations• Precipitation titrations• Karl Fischer titrationsA self finding inflection point technique can be applied for most applications. This can be performed either with fixed time interval additionsor with drift controlled additions, depending on the application. For some applications also a (temperature compensated) end-pointtechnique is available. Karl Fischer titration is a special version of that.TitrationTitration is one of the most applied and proven analysistechniques. This can be explained by the fact that it usesvery straightforward instrumentation and yet delivers mostaccurate analysis results. This is also reflected in thefollowing features brought by the ADI 2016 Titrolyzer:No need for calibration since titration is an absolutemethod. Also the applied electrode does not need calibrationbecause the inflection point is derived from the measuredpotential differentials, rather than the absolute potentials.Great selectivity through the use of dedicated titrantsand electrodes.Several parameters can be obtained by multipointtitration, e.g. P and M number, or Alkalinity andCarbonate.1211109pH876543210EP2EP11 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9V (ml)

ADI 2016 / 2018 / 2019ADI 2018Ion-AnalyzerAnalysis techniqueThe ADI 2018 Ion-Analyzer performs a dynamic standardaddition method by means of a high precision burette and highperformanceIon Selective Electrodes (ISE). These methods adaptthe standard addition volume to the actual sample concentrationby means of a dynamic differential approach. Moreover it takesinto account ISE slope values over several ranges. This meansthat ISE’s can be used to their ultimate low (or high) measuringrange which is mostly non-linear. Finally an accompanying temperaturemeasurement eliminates possible temperature effectson the analysis results.Dynamic Standard AdditionThe above described method brings important benefits making ion selective measurements a robuston-line analysis approach with the following features:Intrinsic result validation.Elimination of sample matrix effects.Automatic ISE calibration.Wide measuring range of approx. 2.5 decades.Easy adaptable measuring range by choosing thestandard concentration.Significant reagent usage reduction; only buffer andstandard solution (typical 0.5 to 1 ml per analysis).Automatic temperature compensation.E (mV)slope 1slope 2slope 3slope 40.10.32 1 3.2 10log concentration

Metrohm Applikon / Single Method On-line AnalyzersADI 2019Process-ColorimeterAnalysis techniqueThe ADI 2019 Process-Colorimeter performs photometric absorptionmeasurements in the visible light range. A by MetrohmApplikon developed high performance compact photometermodule is utilized. It comprises a thermostated cuvette with 3cm light path and LED technology. The color development stabilizationis automatically detected by making use of differentialabsorbance measurements. The ADI2019 will have no problemperforming your color laboratory method; in most cases it can bedirectly implemented in a simple way.Differential colorimetryDifferential measuring method as applied by Metrohm Applikon makes colorimetry a robust, accurate on-line analysis tool, featuring:A1AA0ReagentadditionTimeColor developmentInsensitive for cuvette fouling, background sample color or ageingof light source.High accuracy and repeatability.High sensitivity, typical in the lowµg/l.Processes linear as well as curvedcalibration lines, in order to offerwide measuring ranges.Significant reagent usage reduction;only buffer and standard solution(typical 0.5 to 1 ml per analysis).Insensitive to sample temperaturevariations

ADI 2016 / 2018 / 2019Preconditioning and Stream selectorNot only the chemical analysis, but also the sample preparation or preconditioning is of the utmost importance for the successof a process analyzer system. Furthermore, the analyzer location is an important part of the analysis. The sample needs to be asrepresentative as possible, which means that the sampling point needs to be as close to the analyzer as possible.Metrohm Applikon can engineer and supply virtuallyany ‘unit operation’ for sample preconditioning:pressure reductioncoolingheating, heat tracing(ultra) filtrationprecipitationdilution to avoid crystallisationdegassinghomogenisingflow meteringphase separationWith more than 35 years of experience in process analyzersystems Metrohm Applikon can provide a complete andexact solution for almost any application.Projects range from one Analyzer in combination with simplesample preparation to complete packages with shelters, piping, wiring and interfacing.On-site, only the necessary utilities and the sample streamneed to be connected, saving a lot of time and energy in thestart up phase of the instrument.Multi-stream AnalyzerIn some cases the Analyzer can be equipped with a samplesequencer. This unit makes it possible to monitor multiplesample streams with one Analyzer. Each individualsample stream is assigned to an analog output module (4-20mA) that transfers the analysis result of the chosen samplestream to a process computer.
