Roundwood, Fuelwood andSplitwood made notable contributionsto total export earnings with the maindestinations being the Caribbean,Europe and North America. Averageprices for Splitwood reached a high ofUS$969 per cu.m.For the time period, exports of valueaddedproducts were significant. Themajor exported products were doors,indoor furniture, windows, mouldingsand spindles. Species used in themanufacturing of these productsincluded Greenheart, Purpleheart,Crabwood and Kabukalli. TheCaribbean was the major market forGuyana’s value-added products.•JapanIn the first eight months of 2010, logexports from Sarawak amounted to2.7 million cu.m. Out of the total logexport volume, India took 1.48 millioncu.m, China 434,000 cu.m., TaiwanP.O.C 353,000 cu.m., and Japan250,000 cu.m. The Japanese LumberReports (JLR) notes that Japan is nolonger the main player in theSoutheast Asian log market.In 2009, log production in Sabahtotaled 4.3 million cu.m. For 2010, productionwas far less at 1.3 millioncu.m. in the first six months. As aresult of low supply and aggressivesourcing by Chinese companies, logprices tend to rise. Sabah Keruing log prices stoodat US$247 per cu.m. for regular andUS$270-280 per cu.m. for sawmillquality (diameter 70-80 cm & up).Sarawak Kapur log prices reachedUS$300 per cu.m. as a result of activebuying for the Indian market.The Japanese government is currentlynegotiating on joining the TransPacific Partnership (TPP), a free tradeagreement between Singapore, NewZealand, Australia, Chile, Peru,Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei and theU.S.A.According to JLR, the NationalCouncil for Forest Products TradeMeasure, consisting of 22 forest andwood industry groups, voted againstjoining the TPP.
