Since then, theyhave all worked in almost everyconceivable musical configuration.This is a great opportunity to seethese great musicians in a triosetting. They will performcompositions from each member ofthe trio which will showcase a vastarray of influences.RON SAMSOMEdmonton-based pianoplayer Rob Thompson is amusician who is at home ina diversity of styles. Hisinfluences range from BudPowell, Oscar Peterson, andHorace Silver through toJacky Terrasson and BradMehldau. Rob has enjoyed studyingin recent years with Joanne Brackeen, Geoff Keezer, and D. D.Jackson, but credits much of his knowledge to his tutelage atGMCC under Charles Austin and Torben Holm-Pedersen.This evening’s performance marks Rob’s debut at theYardbird Suite as leader. Having worked with these musiciansin a variety of settings through the years, it is his great pleasureto finally bring them together for a "concert among friends.”Rob promises to deliver an exciting mix of original music as wellas a generous serving of energetic straight-ahead jazz.SATURDAY 4 JANUARY 25DOORS 8PM 4 SHOW 9PM 4 MEMBERS $6/GUESTS $10AudioluxeFriday, January 31 will mark thedebut performance of the excitingnew Edmonton group "Audioluxe"at the Yardbird Suite. Audioluxewas formed in the fall of 2002 andit's lineup includes some of thefinest jazz players in WesternCanada. Saxophonist DaveBabcock, trumpeter Bob Tildesley,keyboardist Chris Andrew anddrummer Greg Ferguson are nostrangers to Edmonton audiencesand have all performed at the 'Suiteover the past several years .Babcock, Tildesley and Andrewhave also worked together in threehighly regarded projects since theearly 90's, The Jump Orchestra, TheDevotees and acid jazz groupPhatty.When the concept of Audioluxewas being envisioned, the groups'desire to write and play originalmusic was the primary motivation.Happily the band will beperforming an entire evening oftheir own original compositions andarrangements. The music played onthat night will be heavily influencedby the current and emerging stylesof today, namely house, hip hop,drum and bass and dub. Thisdoesn't imply that the jazztradition is not in effect. Themusic will be very grooveoriented while leaving plenty ofroom to stretch out .
