Background• An increasing number <strong>of</strong> <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> training <strong>and</strong> education requirementsare, <strong>and</strong> will continue to be, delivered primarily (if not exclusively) via web orcomputer based training.• It is commonly assumed that <strong>Marine</strong>s have sufficient access to <strong>and</strong>experience with technology <strong>and</strong> the internet to optimize these learningopportunities.• Previous USMC survey data suggests that <strong>Marine</strong>s are comfortable withcomputer-based learning but have concerns about computer access.• <strong>Marine</strong>Net distance learning technical st<strong>and</strong>ards are linked to the baselineNavy-<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> Intranet (NMCI) computer seat, which includesMicros<strong>of</strong>t's Internet Explorer browser.• Learning is increasingly supported by mobile technologies in the civiliansector.• If <strong>Marine</strong>s are actually relying on personal technology assets to completejob <strong>and</strong> training requirements, current IT policy may deny access. Suchuse has significant information protection implications.13
