ICT MarkWe were awarded the BECTA ICT Mark this year for the use ofinformation technology within the school. The assessor was veryimpressed with the pupils’ skills and enthusiasm, the wall displays andthe use of the ICT resources within the school.International School AwardWe achieved Foundation and Intermediate level of the InternationalSchool Award in July this year and the next step is to gain the full status.We have a close relationship with schools in Lesotho and Patagonia andwelcome teachers from Patagonia on an annual basis. We also welcomeda group of teachers and headteachers form Friesland and many activitiestook place to promote global citizenship including an Italian day andlearning more about Haiti whilst raising money for the victims of theearthquake.Mathematics WeekA mathematics week was held once again (funded by MathCymru) butthis year we combined it with the business week organised by BosysBach y <strong>Berllan</strong>, our business committee. Every pupil at the school createditems to be sold during the curriculum night for parents and we made aprofit which was used to organise fun experiences for all pupils includinga birthday party and a visit by an ice cream van during the last week ofthe 2010 Summer term.Additional Learning NeedsMs Morag Jones is the school’s Additional Learning Needs co-ordinatorwith the help of Mrs Llinos Beasley as an ALN support assistant for 4days a week. They work closely with the class teachers, parents andoutside agencies to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to reachhis or her full potential.We are continuing to use the Popat, Stars, DyfalDonc and Sioni’n Siarad strategies as interventions to support anddevelop pupils’ oracy and literacy. In the Autumn term 2010 we willbegin the Sail programme through the medium of Welsh.Reading ProjectIn order to improve Year 5 and 6 pupils’ reading abilities reading projectswere implemented in both languages. A meeting for parents was held topromote an English school/home reading scheme which has proved verysuccessful. As part of the Welsh reading project Welsh speakingvolunteers from the local community, including parents and grandparents,have been coming to school on a weekly basis to read with Year 6 pupils.This is also very successful and is continuing to be held in the schoollibrary for an hour every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
